Mechanical clutch

I tried to move my mustang yesterday. 4 speed car with a mechanical clutch. With the clutch all the way in it will still try to jump forward. Started it in neutral and tried to put it in gear and it wouldn't go. Turned the car off and went into hear fine. Anyone know how to properly adjust a mechanical clutch or is something going on inside the pressure plate and linkage?

Been pondering this. Start by checking all your linkage points. Then take it apart where the linkage connects to the clutch fork and wiggle it if you can.

It has been such a long time since I had the Z bar setup.

You may have some stuck parts inside the bell housing or something loose that has shifted.

As for adjustments, there us an adjustment point where the linkage meets the fork. Should be a lock nut to loosen and turn the end to make it longer or shorter. IIRC.

Adjust the clutch so that there is 1/2" of free play between the top of the clutch pedal position and when the throw-out bearing contacts the clutch. You can do this without the car running. You adjust it by fiddling with the various linkages of the clutch assembly---typically by adjusting threaded rods. Once free play is set, you should be able to push the clutch all the way in and start the car without the clutch engaged.

If it still does not disengage after properly adjusting the clutch, try holding the pedal to the floor and manually rocking the car back and forth. It may create enough pressure to help it release from its stuck position. I have done this one time on an old Ford truck.

I have used this to release my backhoe and tractor both

Do yourself a favor and get the shop manuals for your car. It shows in detail how to properly adjust your clutch linkage.
That is where I am betting your issue lies...

I finally have the car back where I can access it. I am going to attempt to adjust the linkage a bit and if that doesn't do it I will take apart the motor/trans and see what is going on in there.
