Medical issues....So frickin' tired of them....

I think I am about burnt out on medical issues that my wife has had to endure.....I can only imagine how she feels.

In the middle of May she had trouble breathing one morning. Got her oxygen generator running which helped but she wanted to see a doctor. No problem.....get the portable O2 and head for the hospital...except the portable bottles did not help her enough. So...we call 911 and get help....it is a slow roll (no lights) to the hospital. Get thru the ER and they are admitting her for possible bronchitis...plus we know she has COPD and a hiatal hernia. All kinds of tests and they finally decide the hernia is bad and needs fixed....but first the wheezing, coughing, and breathing issues need improved upon.

Well....13 days later she is released (1 June). Been thru many drugs, breathing treatments every couple of hours, and xrays and such of everything. They say the hernia is larger than they expected...So she now has a special diet until the surgery. Set a date for three weeks for the surgery. More tests and doctor visits and all looks like a go.

Went to the hospital on the 25th at 5am for 7:30 surgery. Doc is 30 min. late....and is the best in this field around here. Surgery is to be 45 mins..... An hour and a half later I am raising the roof on why I have not been better informed. Doc comes out after 2 hours and says all went great. Her hernia was worse than they had ever seen. Her entire stomach and part of the colon had moved above the diaphragm thru an enlarged opening....this could have been extremely serious. Now, 2 hours in recovery.

All was put back in place and properly secured....and done laparoscopicly but she comes out with a lot of pain. This is due to the air they inflate the body with so they decide she needs to spend the night..... Finally, around noon today she is released but still has much pain. Now to keep her moving around here and hope all heals well. Three weeks of a liquid diet for her....and after another week, she goes in to have all the female internals removed.

With all the past.....both knees replaced in '07, COPD, fibromyalgia, arthritis, asthma, back pain stimulator installed in '08, high blood pressure, thyroid, sleep apnea (I am forgetting something I know) and now this......she is one tough wife.....plus still puts up with me....

I tell everyone I cannot afford to trade her in so I am rebuilding her.....kinda like a good classic car.....you really keep the good one.

Thanks for listening.....

pete,

I know how you feel, been thru seven surgeries in two years with mine. it will get better in time.

I also use the car analogy with mine. I just tell her I wish I could charge as much to do a car & the docs do on rebuilding her!

Hope she heals quickly Pete.

I can kind of understand what your going through. We went through a lot of that same stuff with my dad, plus diabetes and heart trouble. And lucky me I inherited some of it too. I have fibromyalgia, high cholesterol, acid reflux and a mild hiatal hernia. I also have sleep apnea and a back that goes out in the blink of an eye. It's not fun and I know its only going to get worse for me. My wife will probably just trade me on though.

We will say a prayer for a speedy recover.

Pete,
What can I say? Your plate is full but you will get through this. You are a very strong willed person to let this get the best of you.

Anytime you want to vent, which we all newd todo, buzz one or even a few of us.

I know that pain from having my gall bladder removed Lapro... worst part of the procedure.

Sounds like you guys are having a tough time. Be strong for her, she needs you

Hope she mends quickly. I know she is much tougher than I am. Is she breathing easier now?

Thanks guys... Been thru both of my folks passing over the years with me being the one to handle and deal with all the medical issues and such. Never thought the wife would be the one to have these issues as I am the one who does not follow the healthy track in life.

If you have a hiatal hernia, get it checked often. Six months ago Linda's was not as bad and we saw no difference in her health. The acid reflux also showed no change.

The pain she has is tremendous and the doc says she is on as much as they can legally give her. I am sure a neighbor has something that will help....hmmmm.

I do have a day planned to help a certain local fastback owner do some repairs and the afternoon is always a good time to relax.

Of course, during this entire time, my grandsons Explorer decided to develop an ABS issue that caused the brakes to react as if a wheel was locking up whenever the pedal was touched. Caused him to panic a few times. It was just a bad sensor but he works and has collage classes so needed it fixed fast. The grandaughters Focus lost a valve seat so she needed it repaired with her work and school also. Bought us a 3rd vehicle to loan to our daughter while the grandaughter used her 09 Mustang....finally got the grandaughter another vehicle...now to decide on the future of the Focus.

Also, between hospital stays, found 28 feet of aluminum handicap ramp, landings and rails for $250 so got that and assembled and cleaned it so the wife can get in and out of the house better.......

Glad I don't have a classic to deal with to.....may never had got any of this other stuff done....lol.....and the CC and Coke is looking real good.

Wow, Pete!

I will put you guys in my prayers!!!!

I can relate, Amber is still going through the reconstruction surgeries from her Breast cancer, the oldest daughter is living with us with her hubby. She finally got pregnant via IVF and has been sick like no other, worse than my wife with her...

My heart is acting up so I have another procedure in October, just take more drugs to keep it in check!

So hang in there buddy. If you were closer, I could do more than just put you in my prayers....

Wife is doing better....still pain but an improvement each day. The liquid diet has her staying close to the facilities so I slipped away today and went to see the High Five Tour Super Snake Wounded Warrior Family Support car. Nice to have a day to relax plus a good test for the '02 Vert. Wife stayed home and our daughter was close by with a phone call if needed.

Great news Pete...hope all it all goes well in the future.

Hope she feels better with each passing day, I have to have another medical issue checked out 7-12 that I am not looking forward to--I also have had waaaaaay too many surgeries. Good luck on the continuing recovery.

Wife gets better every day....thanks everybody.

Today was a near heart attack for me...the bill before any insurances pay...$132,000.00. I rounded or off to the closest thousand..... Meds, pulmonary, semi private, xrays.....but we got three free meals for both of us everyday......

Yikes. That's a big bill. Hope you don't end up with too much of it to pay.

Glad she is doing better.

After your 20% which is about 16k your out of pocket max should kick in.5
I hope it is a reasonable amount. Ours is $3,200 a year, so it helps us if we have multiple treatments in the same year. We have however maxed it out three times now.

Good luck Pete!
