Modifications to Fit 275 Rear Tires

What modifications are required to fit a 275/40 inch tire on a 17" rim on my 1967 coupe?

I don't have the wheels and rims quite yet so backspace is a variable. I'm stripping and refinishing the undercarriage and rear wheel wells. If modifications are required, I'd like to take care of them now.

Everything on my car in regard to the rear axle, leaf springs, ride height, and body are 100% stock. I'd like to switch to some 4 or 4.5 leaf mid-eye springs soon. Any help or links to reliable posts would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm using 275/40-17's on my 67 with no mods.

I'm very glad to hear they fit without modifications. I'd heard some work was required to make them fit.

Thanks for your responses.

Fast68Back,

What are the dimensions and backspacing of your rear rims? Are you still using the stock rear axle?

I ordered a 9" from currie, but it was built to '68 specs, so its standard width. My rims are 17" X 9.5" with 5.75" of BS.

I used these to get my measurements
