More "items for sale" questions

So, I'm trying to make use of some of my free time (since work is beyond slow) and I'm going through a bunch of stuff Deb and I have collected over the years. Trying to figure out the best place to sell one of the out of the ordinary items and am open for suggestions.

I have a Simpson open face helmet from 1993 that has all of the Nascar Ford drivers except Alan Kulwiki (he died just before they put it together). It was given to my FIL when he retired from Ford. I have the original FedEx BOL that shows it was shipped from Ford in Dearborn and the Simpson box it came in, but no other documents. I want to get rid of it, but not sure what the best avenue would be.

For reference, here are a few pics and the BOL. *

Note* it is NOT for sale yet, just trying to figure out where the best place to attempt to sell it!

I would say any NASCAR sites for sure. Check ebay and see if there is anything close to it and watch how it goes.

Can't say on value as everything is in the toilet these days price wise, but I will say that is Awesome. You can actually make out all the signatures. Davey,Mark and Bill being my fav's. :10 :10

Hey - I've got a GREAT idea.....

Skip borrowed my white, open-face helmet. He can just keep that one, and replace it with this one. I'm sure you'd cut him a deal! :10

Would look good in the mancave next to the KU basketball......... I'll even let you guys visit it...... :craz

Since Skip is loaded with disposable cash, that might just work!

On an item as unusual as this, why not just put it up on E-Bay with a really high reserve and see what happens. If at the end you like the highest bid you always have the option of accepting it, right? Or is that an unacceptable/unethical thing to do?
I mean, how else would you determine value. I can't imagine there are many similar items with which to compare.

This was your father-in-laws retirement present/award from Ford? And you want to sell it? Why? Maybe he gave the helmet to the wrong son-in-law is what I'm thinking.....

Whether you like the helmet or not, it is an important piece of who your FIL is/was. Sixty years from now I'm betting one of your FIL's great-great-grand-children would have wished you'd kept it. It is a representation of a large part of who your FIL was... a Ford man... and a perfect representation of this part of his life.

I think the typical answer is "without documentation" and the BOL doesnt confirm the actual signatures. Not that I doubt its authenticity.

I don't know about that. A lot of those signatures have the same general features, all oddly similar to Mark's own handwriting.
