I went to the midnight showing last night with my 16 year old daughter.
Did they spend 310 million bucks on this movie? duh
It was very entertaining, I enjoyed it very much and if you are into the SciFi genre you will like it as well. I guess the only thing I was thinking about this afternoon, after having time to reflect on the movie, is that they were still shooting lead 150 years from now. No ray guns. They only were showing the film in 3D last night. That technology has got a lot better, but if you wear glasses like me, it is still a pita to wear them.
Thank you and good night,
fd

What did your daughter think of it?

This is one movie i cant wait to see. I like the SciFi stuff, and this one looks very entertaining. Of course, It may have something to do with my brother being in the credits. He did these:

I think the one on the left is a dude, :gobp seriously, what did he do? I read a review on the other site and someone mentioned same plot as dances with wolves, just set in the future

Anyone notice that the recent death of Cincy Bengal Chris Henry looks like an Avatar. Man, that spooked me out!

Seriously. I'm not into the SciFi stuff at all. (I've never seen a Star Trek and only seen one Star Wars). I actually don't watch any movies anymore as none of them even have a hint of reality to 'em. I rented one last night due to all the hoopla. Have you seen Hangover? Not quite as funny as everyone makes it out to be. Not a bad rental, worth the $5, just don't expect gut-wrenching laughter. I'll take Dazed and Confused, Road Trip, U-571 any day of the week.

He sculpted and painted the facial features on the avatars, along with a lot of intensive work of the aircrafts. The main character in the movie, the handicapped marine, he is sitting on his real legs in the chair, and my brother made an alternate set of motionless legs. He has been working on this project for almost 3 years. He's in the credits under "Key Artist."

Oh she really enjoyed it, however the one question that I was asked was how long was that movie. Because with the opening commercials (movie teasers) the film did not end until 3am. She was getting a little sleepy towards the end of the movie.
Pretty cool that your bro is involved in the movie industry. We have a friend that is involved in the movie industry as well, and his brother is and actor. (We have not met the brother yet.) fd

Would any of you take an eight year old to see Avatar? My daughter wants to see it bad.

Can she sit through a movie that is almost 3 hours long? The language is not that bad, Sigourney Weaver is maybe as bad as some of the Marines, :craz and things getting shot and blown up. fd

My middle daughter is in her third year as a theater major, directing and play write major. She has a play she is going to get produced this summer. It is kinda cool having family in the business. You get another perspective on different productions.

I guess I'll play the role of critic then. Overall, I liked the flick. The visuals are awesome. I really dig the huge vtol, even though it resembles the dropship from Aliens, another Cameron film. Props to lethals bro for that. I love me some cool machinery.

The storyline though, that was my major beef with the movie. I've already seen that plot. Yes Rick, it's Dances With Wolves.
If you can ignore that, then it's a good movie.

Looks like Jake lost out on BOTH counts :lol

I agree with Snuffle. Great effects, but recycled plot. I did find the various Aliens references amusing. Fortunately my date did too, otherwise I would've been the only one in the theater laughing when Sigourney Weaver first appeared (I didn't even know she was in the movie).
