Mustang with straight 6 cylinders...

Wondering what the original 6 cylinders get for mileage? I know they came out with different models of the straight 6 between 66 and 67 but if anyone has their original straight 6's in their 'stang, MPG would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi,
66 and 67 Used the same 6 cylinder the 200 cubic inch. I own a few 6 cylinder cars the one I've driven the most is a 66 Convertible,I'm able to pull around 26 MPG On the highway,in it,It is a great cruising car.

A friend of mine sold one several years ago and always told me he could get 25 mpg,,,,,and it was a 6 cyl. automatic coupe.

My first Mustang in 1978 was a straight 6 with a 3 spd manual. It had the weak trans in it. The best I ever logged was from LA to Bakersfield and got 30. Most of the time I got 25-26.

Thanks for all the replies, i had no idea it was so fuel efficient! Great to hear

You know, I thought about getting another car, a 66 coupe with a 6 and a stick a 5 speed behind it. Since both my cars have 5spds, I would hate to have anything else.

I bet I could consistently get 30 mpg on the highway....

Hummm, maybe a vert!

Gotta finish my FB first!

Yeah I still have to finish my build too! It'll get 10 MPG at the best :/ So i was thinking of how i could make a daily driver with the best MPG possible. My dad told me to but one of those 4 cylinder, 2.3L ford ranger motors in one. That could be a possibility....

a 2.3l would suck though. at least a V6. I was thinking of the SOHC V6 like my daughter had in her Explorer which got 20+ mpg.
