Thought I'd share some info on some of my cooking/BBQing and meat smoking toys. This first pic show a couple digital meat temp probes which are probably the fastest on the market. White one being a Thermapen and the red one is from CDN. I've had the Thermapen for awhile and it is my favorite between the two. Probably more because some gave me the CDN unit recently and I just haven't used it too much yet. Nevertheless when I open the door of my cover grill or smoker to check the temp amongst a number of chunks of meat, I want the read out fast so I can make a quick decision to shut the system down or close the door for more cooking. Don't know of any other digital temp probe that is a fast as these. Avg time to proper temp is 3-4 seconds. The downside is they are not cheap. Thermapen around $80, CDN around $70.
Another set of toys is the wireless temp system. My old trusty is the Maverick ET-732.....

.....has two temp probes, with one for a chunk of meat and the other probe for the smoker chamber's ambient temp. Being wireless, I carry the receiver in my pocket and can to the laundry, self pedicure, whatever while the smoker if puffing away. It tells me both temps and has alarm set for both probes so if the meat reaches a predetermined setting which I had done earlier, it will start beeping me. Both probes are resettable.
But now for my Bday I got the igrill which basically the same idea as the Maverick with two probes, wireless, etc. but now it sends the signal to yes.....my iphone. So instead of carrying around both my phone and the Maverick.....Have not tried it yet but will do so when I smoke more Salmon.
