My Boy wins the 4 Diamonds Shoot out!!

Susquehanna Speedway in South Central Pa. puts on this annual big pay out race called the Four Diamonds Shootout for the Legend series. it attracts alot of very good drivers. Its not easy to win a regular Legends race and this one has the added challenge of an extra 5 laps and quite a few hungry experienced drivers. My son won his first race a few weeks ago and I was disappointed that I missed it, but to see him win this one was huge!! He got second in his heat race, and thru an inversion rule he got to start pole in front of 23 other cars for the feature, the race had a lot of cautions which added to the nervous factor and he was challenged by 4 or 5 second place cars, some of which would get him sideways in the turns, but with 5 laps to go he pulled away from the field and took the checker with relative ease! He took home about $1,000 and a 6 ft long sub. But I got to take home the memory of hearing him tell the crowd in winners circle that he was glad that his dad was there to see him win. I had to walk away before anyone could see me! What a Night!

Congrats!!!

Sounds like it was a great race, you should outfit the car with a camera so we can all watch!

Wow, that's great!!! I keep hoping I'll get the opportunity to get my son into some sort of racing, but haven't been able to yet. He's 3 1/2 now, hopefully in the next 5 or so years.

Thanks for the comments guys!

You can put him in a Kid Kart as early as 5 years old, then a transition to either Sprint or Oval karts is a lot easier! My son started late at 14 in Karts, he's now 23 and has been racing Legends for just a couple of years now, but what he learned in the many years of karting certainly rolled over in his car racing! I am still involved with karting by being a Race Director at our local track, its little tough some times dealing with the Little league syndrome of a few of the parents, but I really dig trying to pass on what I learned with my son to the ones that get it!

Very cool! How old is your son?

He is 23 and totally funds (other than contingency from a few small sponsors and track payout) and wrenches on his car himself. I paid my dues, so now I just get to watch, although he still lets me throw in my 2 cents every now and then :ecit

Although he doesn't have an in car camera, I'm willing to bet that someone did and if I find it I will definitely figure out how to post it!

My bother and I raced motocross for years, he is out of it now and I still race here and there. I know what you mean about some of the parents.... You have to feel sorry for the kids with crazy hyper parents.. Its great he is wrenching and funding this on his own. Nothing more important than knowing and understanding your machine!
