My first experience at Laguna Seca, Monterey, CA.

It all began Saturday April 17th of 2010, it was about 6am when I was awe struck coming over the crest of the hill that drops down into Laguna Seca Raceway, I almost shed a tear. I imagined Fred and I flying past the pits and roaring through the corkscrew. It was a great morning so far for sure, the only problem was that Fred is no where near ready to be driven, so, what the he11 was I doing at Lugana Seca Raceway? LoL!

I signed up for this awesome event held at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey CA called the Sea Otter Classic. It was my first time ever joining a organized event like this and will most definitely do it again next year. Thanks to the help from Craig, we were able to do some fit adjustments and the ride went really smooth. He also gave me some advice on some equipment that needs to be replaced either because it will help with ride comfort or because they just plain need to be replaced.

We started off riding from the regulars auto racing starting line and went backwards on the track going up the corkscrew past the pits out of the track down the hill into Sea Side where we then followed the coast line just short of pacific grove, we then decided to take a 10 mile detour to pebble beach along 17 mile drive, we decided it was time to rejoin the route exactly where we had veered astray and worked our way back up to Laguna Seca. We had gone from being in the middle of the pack at the last rest stop before we went off course, but once we got back on route we were now 10th from the last rider. We decided to turn it up and regained our position due to many having to get off their bikes and walking them back up the hill to the finish on the race track. I hope everyone enjoys some pics from the event.

You rode UP the corkscrew?????? Are you nuts :craz

Sounds like it was a great time.....lucky dog.

Hey Abe I did Lagu on my bike too. Never really got above third gear though which was good for 110 on the front straight-away. That is a fun track at speed though. I ran it as fast as I dared in my '67 too during the Historics. Now that was fun.

Really nice scenery!
You must have alot of heart! Are you sore?

Surprisingly I am only a little soar right above my right knee. I am assuming that it had to do with me riding on regular classic pedals and using my daily Adidas Samba shoes that I wear. I noticed the stress mostly when we started our uphill climb but I feel great outside of that.

Thanks Stan, I really love the Monterey Carmel area, no place like it in the world. As much as I dint like my iPhone, it takes pretty good photographs.

I need to find out when those races are, I think they recently change the name of the event to the reunion race day or something similar to that.

It was a really great day for me, everything went so well I was actually kind of waiting for something bad to happen. LoL

I can't wait to join the rest of the club and actually drive my car on the track.

Very cool, but, who is "we"?

Well, its a annoying story that I didn't let bother me but I will bore you with it. A couple of friends of mine convinced me to join in on the event, one of them decided he was going to ride the 100 mile route and the other was going to join me in the 45 mile route. On the day of, my buddy that was going to ride with me showed up with the Miyata I let him borrow and nothing else, I coached him through the pre registration process (since I did all the check in research online and don't mind asking questions) we made it through registration pretty quickly. Once we started heading down to the start line I noticed he didn't have a helmet, so I asked him about it and he said he didn't have one. Part of the regulations of the race that I read online is that you are required to wear a helmet to participate, none of the vendors were open yet and no one had a extra helmet so he didn't ride. About three miles into the ride, I was getting ready to pace a fellow rider and he started making small talk, he introduced me to his wife who was riding behind him, I liked their pace so I decided to ride with them. It really made the ride a whole lot more enjoyable having people to ride with. So that should explain the we a little bit, so I hope.

I can't wait to drive Fred at Laguna, you lucky guy you. When is the event going down this year?

I got to drive the parade lap (no parade they took off fast) during the Historids years ago when the Shelby club was there. They offered infield parking and then the parade lap(s) for free.
On my old K1100RS I took the Pridmore class there which was great.

This year the 'Re-union' as it is called now will be Aug 13-15. I believe the Trans-Am race car tour will also be making an apearance. Its great watching the real Bosses, Camaros, Firebirds and Javelins at speed on the track.
