My options for B2 intake, exhaust manifolds, and distributor?

So I am acquiring a Boss 302 long block. Do I need to shell out huge sums of $$$ to obtain an original intake manifold and distributor for this, or are there aftermarket parts available? Are there other engine line parts that will work? I can't find anything on the Summit or Jegs's websites, but I am finding $800 stock intakes and $1900 original distributors out there for sale... I can get headers for it, but are there any of the stock exhaust manifolds--other than original B2-- that might fit? It seems like I read somewhere that Cleveland exhaust manifolds won't fit for some reason?

This is news to me. Where did you read/hear this?

I know where there's a really nice intake manifold for a B2 car. It's in Pensacola FL at a place called "Mr. Mustang". Buried in one of the back rooms on a dusty cluttered shelf is an old Holman-Moody one-off intake for one of their old race motors. The owner of this place/intake is approx. 125 years old and everything is for sale for the right price.

How cool would that be!!!! :vic

Tell me about it..... I didn't own a Cleveland at the time and didn't pursue it, but it's just sitting there gathering a lot of dust. When the owner croaks it'll probably get ditched as scrap metal.

What else the old dude got? Maybe I can swing by and put my name and number on the bottom of it so when they start cleaning the joint out they will call me. I swear, half the stuff in my ex MIL's house had one of her kids or grandkids names on a piece of tape on the bottom of it.

Well..... they call him "Mr. Mustang"..... which he answers to when speaking with him..... so...... imagine a LOT of stuff. I scrounged through all of his areas in about 3-4 hours and a lot of it is the usual old mustang junk, but there are some treasures buried in there. This is the guy who also has an Eliminator.... minus just about everything.... parked around back outside and unprotected.

I believe I read this on the Boss forum. I'll try and find the link...

Edit: this is from my search on that forum:

"The ONLY stock ......
exhaust manifolds that will fit a 302 windsor block with Cleveland style heads (clevor) are the BOSS exhaust manifolds (C9ZE). Due to the differences in deck height between the 302 and 351 blocks, the stock 351C manifolds will interfere with the oil filter (and possibly steering) on the driver's side and with the starter/bellhousing area on the passenger side. If you look closely, for example, at the passenger side BOSS exhaust manifold, you will notice a curve upwards to clear the starter. Since BOSS exhaust manifolds are so costly, headers in this instance would be the more economical way to go....

randy"

I'm sorry, I interpreted your above statement to mean that you were acquiring an original Boss 302 engine. An original Boss 302 block WOULD use the same exhaust manifolds that are used on an M code (4V) 351 Cleveland.... such as those detailed in Craig's recent engine threads.

The "new" Boss 302 engine I have no idea what fits and what doesn't.

Yes, it is a "correct" (old 9Kxx dated) B2 block w/matching heads. I couldn't find the original discussion that I read on that forum regarding the fitment of the Cleveland exhaust manifolds on an original B2 motor, but the quote I posted was similar in content. My understanding is, due to the differences in deck heights 302 to 351, while the exhaust manifold bolt pattern is the same, there is some interference with the back portion of the stock Cleveland manifold and ...something--starter, Z-bar? If not, that simplifies my life considerably.

Hmmm.... this is all news to me, but I am definitely not an authority on the B2 engines. I always assumed....... and you know where this leads whenever someone is assuming.... that the B2 manifolds were the same as those used on the M code 351 engines.

OK, I guess I'll bite the bullet and get over on the Boss Forum... Thanks for input, tho!
Kim, I know where an original B2 intake is sitting on a shelf. Don't know if it's for sale but I'll ask.

I'll ask about the exhaust too.

That would be great! I'm more worried about the intake and distributor than the exhaust...I can always toss a set of headers on it, but I can't really put the motor together until I have the intake. Thanks :)

I'm waiting on a text, but I'm in the bomb shelter so I'll go outside. Maybe I can catch a signal.

Okay.
Good news on the Dizzy. You can buy one from MSD. That's what he runs on his.
Not so good news on the intake. He does have one sitting on a shelf. Not for sale however.
It is original to his car and the car is a <50K survivor.

The cleveland ran a dry intake and the 302 ran a wet one. Boss 302 heads are basically 4v Cleveland heads that have had
water jackets opened up to run with the windsor type intake.

I'm afraid it's a highly specialized piece.

Jump on the concours board and try to rattle up Jeff Speegle or Bob Perkins. If you post in the Boss forum there, one if not both
will probably reply. These two both know Bosses inside out.

Sorry :shy

Thanks for trying Sluggo! I don't blame him--you can't pry stuff like that out of my hands, either. There was an intake on eBay w/a BIN of $350, which is a similar price to 428CJ stuff, and not that bad. But his wording made me a little leery of it. There is a really beautiful piece on Ebay right now for $750 or so, but I won't spend that kind of money on that--at least not right now.

The dizzy is really good news! Thanks for inquiring for me. Good tip on the Concours Board. I've been over there w/my 351W questions and didn't think to ask them about the Boss.
