My Stang will become a DD

My son up in the Chicago area called the other day and let me know the AOD went out of the T-Bird I gave him. He has no money so I offered to loan him my F150 and bring his car down here so I can fix it. In the mean time my wife needs a daily driver and I'm not taking the Stang to leave in the airport parking lot so she will use it as her DD until I can get his fixed up. I guess I better put 50/50 antifreeze in it!

I have a pretty short commute to work and I have pondered making mine a DD before and letting the wife use the Explorer as a DD and giving to Mark selling the Cruiser.

Would have to do a few things to it first though...like add air cond., install a collapse column, get some seats with head rests, etc. Ideally if I were going to use it long term as a DD I'd have to look at finding a donor to steal the AOD and fuel injected motor out of.

My wife is off during summer months and I hope to have his car all fixed up before then anyway. She hates the fact it doesn't have PS but I'm not changing that anytime soon. The Stang was supposed to go into the body shop to fix the damage I did to it but that will have to wait. Now I have to figure out how I am going to tow his T-Bird 500 miles back here and leave the F150 up there... looks like I will be doing a bunch of driving over the holidays. I can go up with the truck and trailer, tow the car back then go back with the truck and fly home.

Why not just drive the truck / trailer up, rent a uhaul truck to tow the car and trailer home and only make the there and back drive once?

How about you pick his T-bird, bring up by me and I will help you with it and then you can help me drop my new engine in the Mustang. Haha :roll

That way I can make the power tour next summer.

if we get a plan together I will seriously come up and help you. That would be fun! really! I have customers in Milwaukee and Ft Atkinson so I could plan to stay over a weekend or something. Let's talk...

I was just kidding, but that would be fun. And I sure could use a hand with it.
I don't have any good car friends up here.

I have the old motor mostly torn apart, almost ready to come out. Then I want to get some clean up work done on the engine bay. I was thinking March or April to drop in the new motor.

Ok, Hijack over now.

Why not find a local AOD, rebuild it, drive up, replace, drive home......... Sure we could find a local mustanger with a garage.

Thanks, that is tempting. But have you ever changed a transmission in a MN-12 T-Bird? It's a real PIA. Since it is IRS the exhaust and gas tank all have to come out before you can even remove the drive shaft. I am not willing to do all that in the freezing cold just to find out the trans I put in is just as bad.
I figure I will bring it down here where I have all the tools, my garage, etc. Pull the trans, have it rebuilt and then install it. I'm paying for it all too so I need to recover from all the Christmas presents and stuff like that.
My son can drive my truck for a while and that will give me time to fix a few other things. It needs a little body work, rust repair, brakes, tires, etc. He is going to school and works only a couple days a week so he has no money and no place to work on it.
