Need a Labeler

No Craig, that was not Labia...just label-er :char

I need to get some sort of wire labeling device. I'm getting ready to do the efi swap on the '66 and this would help a bunch, I do believe. I'm thinking it needs to be able to use laminated tape for weather protection/water/gas/fire or whatever else I may manage to f'up while I'm doing this delicate surgery on my baby. Don't need anything fancy or expensive to sit around the garage either. What do you guys use?

I have this one from ptouch. But I don't think I'd really recommend it. The labels don't seem to really stick well.

That's really surprising. I was going to recommend a P-Touch. I've used one for years and have never had a problem with the labels sticking. I have another brand, I don't recall what and it's around here somewhere, but the labels were paper. It works good for wiring also, but the labels aren't as durable.

You could get some wire labels from your preferred box home improvement store. They would work also (that's what they're intended for!). Just look on the electrical supplies aisle.

Call me cheap but I use 3M masking tape and a ink pen. I went into a 8 year year old harness the other day and it labels were perfect. Course it was covered by loom and not exposed to water and it was in the engine compartment. I write it twice on the tape where when folded over you can see it on both sides and then stick it to it's self. It works pretty darn good.

Silly idea. Why not use actual wire markers? They are designed for the purpose so they can be left on permanently. You can get them at any electrical supply house or even a decent hardware store.

This thread reminds me of the hot stamping wire markers we used to install instrumentation wiring in the F-14s at Point Mugu... Having one of those machines would be sweet!

Thanks guys. I will check out the electrical wire markers! I have gone the masking tape route before and that is just butt ugly and usually winds up tearing off and leaving bits and pieces everywhere.

I recommend you get the cloth type. They hold up the best. I've seen them last decades in some of the worst environments. Here's an example.

The paper/coated ones that usually come in a roll tend to have much less adhesive and the tails will come loose in short order.
