My net line (1.5meg DSL) comes in on the phone line. It's currently plugged into a Star Smart Model SSABR-B then the ethernet cable runs to my Linksys WRT610N V1 dual band-N-Wireless router.

The phone co. is in the process of upgrading to fiber optic lines. My modem is 4 yrs old and I think it's starting to bite the bullet.

What would a good replacement be for the star smart?

and no, smoke signals will not suffice.

I knew typing the question I'd probably....no, prolly not get an answer.

Is your service still going to come through the phone lines? Only reason I ask is that I have ATT Uverse and it's considered dsl, but the signal comes in from my cable. They somehow run it from the phone service lines, to your cable demarc box, then it hooks up to a combo cable modem/router.

It will still arrive over the phone line.

For starters Duane, us "geeks" need to know every variable. I didn't know how his ISP(Internet Service Provider, for you thick headed goons) handle the dsl line. Did I use words that went over your head? If you want, I can explain things.....a.....lot.....slower....with....smaller...words.... :bird

1. Yes you did.
2. If I have a question I would like things explained in much simpler terms, I ain't that bright.
3. I know it's Mark's questions and not mine therefore they can be explained however Mark can understand it.
4. It's Mark for cryin' out loud.

FTR, I didn't call you a geek. Don't get pi$$ed at me 'cause you have a cubicle and your Indian counterpart has an office with a view.

I wear my geekness with pride, not considered an insult to me. Oh and FTR, I don't work with any Indians, nor in a cubicle. I have an actual office, no windows, but it's security card entry only and no one can bother me when I'm there. As for the view, I work from home mostly or drive to different locations for service calls. Yea, I get paid to sit on my couch, watch tv, and remote into folks' computers.

As for Mark's question, the selection of dsl modems is kinda weak. Looks like your options are 2Wire, D-link, and Netgear.

Switch to satellite and then you can run wires from your ears to the modem....it'll save you a few bucks on the initial equipment expense.

Have you been shack'n up with Kevin????

Mark, your provider should be giving you a new "modem" that you will hook up to your linksys. You should contact them.
