Need Advice on Buying Artificial Christmas Tree

Well, bummer, I just went and got my Christmas tree out of the shed and the lousy packrats had built a nest in the storage bag and used it for storage, too. I sure don't want it in the house now. It's 30 years old, so not a huge loss.

My problem is that I haven't bought an artificial tree in 30 years and I know things have changed quite a bit. I sure would appreciate any advice. I do want a 7.5 tree, which will give me one foot clearance.

laurie,

if you can find a two piece where the branches are hinged, they are MUCH easier to put up & take down. our old one had to have each branch inserted by color & the markers were falling off so was a real pain to seperate & assemble. the new one gets the two pieces put together then you simply fold the branches open. ours is also pre lighted, but we add another string or two to suit ourr tastes. too bad you can't wait until after christmas, as they usually are dirt cheap in the after christmas sales...

My old one is easy to put up that I'm tempted to take a hose to it. The one we had before this one you had to insert each branch and I hated it. This one has nine major sections that you hang off a ring that sets down just below the top of tree. I doubt they make any like this anymore. I'll look for the hinge type tomorrow.

I didn't put the tree up the last two years since I was gone and had a new dog, and then kitten. I just can't go another Christmas without a tree. It may not have many ornaments on it due to said dog and kitten, but I really want to put it up.

I bought a cheap 5 foot fiber optic tree several years ago and love it--the picture I posted a while back doesn't do it justice--it lights up on the tips of the branches and looks like they are snow tipped when it is off--it has a rotating light in the base that changes the tip color constantly--all built in--no lights to string--it would look fine with no ornaments even. This one does not come apart except at the base---I have a contractor garbage that I throw on it and stick it in the basement for storing.

Give your old tree to Jeremy. The rat's nest will go perfectly with his wreath sweater!

LOL! I got a new tree yesterday at Home Depot. It's a 7.5-foot black pine with 1500 led lights and fresh-cut looking branches. I had to buy the floor tree but got a nice discount since they didn't have a box. Now I only have to figure out how to take it down in January. It does have hinged branches, so I'm guessing they fold flat up against the trunk?
