need cat food recommendations that don't result in stinky poop

We have a new indoor-only cat, approx 8 months old, that stink-bombs the house when nature calls, it's not diarrhea. We've tried dry Science Diet for kittens (came with cat from the SPCA), which resulted in many SBD gas incidents + poop, the vet said to try non-kitten formula as kitten food has higher protein in it. We switched to dry Purina One for adult cats (used this for a prior cat) and the gas problem is slightly less but still there, poop smell is really bad.

Recommendations?

Thanks.

(KBMWRS, no need to respond as I already know what you will suggest.)

Since all of our cats are over 10, I can't really say what to give a kitten. All of ours are on Iams old ass cat formula.

Our youngest cat, all of 11 yrs, still drops nuclear turds. And he's had his food changed multiple times over the years. Nothing helped. We do know that he's too stupid to cover his crap, so that might play a role.

I will do it for him---I suggest .22 long rifle hollow point.

My wife has found that three of our four cats have various food allergies. Try various foods that do not contain chicken or other poultry, beef, pork, fish corn, etc. You need to keep one food going for 2-3 days to see if there is a change.

Are you serving dry or wet (canned) food?

Try this. Both our cats, 10 and 2 years eat it. Bottom line is cat poop stinks, but this food seems to help at our house.

That's what we used to feed ours, hoping it would help with one constantly harking up on the carpet. Didn't help, since its not hairballs. She's just bulimic.

Dry cat food here. Cat crack (wet food) is used for special occasions (e.g. sickness). One cat goes crazy over canned pumpkin...go figure.

Make sure to stay away from the Blue Mountain brand of cat food. We tried it with our now 6 and 2 years old cats last year and it gave them wicked gas. Neither my wife nor I had ever heard a cat fart before.

It may be that your cat (still a kitten at 8 mo.) cannot process something in the cat food yet. You could try giving it the meat based jarred baby food as its not processed to see if that helps with the problem.

But, yeah as stated previously cat poop usually smells and sometimes really badly for no reason.

Try to find a food with no by-products or fillers (like corn). Cats are carnivores so they don't need grains. Also, if you feed a food with less fillers, they eat less and poop less. I'd try one of these. Just make sure to switch food gradually so they don't get diarrhea.

Taste of the Wild
Blue Buffalo
Wellness
Merrick
Natural Balance

OR if you're just die hard about not having any smell at all to the poop.. feed a totally raw diet.

Pools and lead? How about another option? :roll

Could also be an age thing, that is it will grow out of it and or learn to cover it up better. :skul

Maybe you could relocate the cat box from the front room where you entertain guests, or from under your bed, to.......the garage? :shrug

With our 3 cats we use NUTRO brand MaxCat dry food for indoor cats. We also feed them good ole ' friskies canned cat food.

But maybe the problem is the cat litter you are using. We use a simple PetCo Scoopible litter. You might consider trying different brands to find the one that masks the stink bombs, the best.

Thanks for the tips everyone. We'll try some different foods to see how that affects the "outcome".
