Need opinions (advise) on which primer to use

The Colt should be bare metal this Friday, after some research I am having to choose between direct-to-metal primer and epoxy primer and SPI urethane primer. Tell me your experiences.

I've only tried DPxxLF epoxy primer, primarily because of the great reviews and the fact that it is compatible with almost everything: either DP products within a week, or a scuff and shoot with all cover coats after that. You can also apply filler over it. It's versatile, easy to shoot, and very durable. It is expensive, but well worth the money.

i've used the DP72LF that mid speaks of above, but now use the SPI epoxy exclusively. they are both great products & once SPI came out with a red oxide that matches the original ford red like the DP72LF, thats what i switched to. SPI also adds a UV treatment o their black epoxy so that it can be used on chassis/underhood area without the possibility of fading & it is also impervious to dot3 brake fluid. their tech support is unequalled anywhere. you wont go wrong with the SPI stuff. go with the epoxy on bare metal. its a much better product than the etch primers on the market.

Not to quibble, but it is DP74LF that is the red oxide.

ppg always kept me messed up with that numbering system :hs. they should have kept one number for all the epoxy instead of each color having a diferent number. i used the black more than anything, its the dp90...

Ive pretty much decided that I am going to use SPI epoxy primer. What type/brand of paint should I NOT use with SPI?

You won't have a problem.

I use SPI clear also on all my projects. Spray the base wait overnight and than spray SPI clear.
