Hell Bent for Speed
Just rescued this little female boxer mix from a humane society shelter. She just turned 11 weeks - barely old enough to spay. No one knows what she is mixed with though. At 11 weeks she weighs almost 20 pounds right now. Like 19.2 pounds. Her feet are huge as well, so any helpfully insight as to the mix breed would be appreciated. And her name is Camber.

The is so laid back it's crazy, but also loves to have her playful puppy time. But she knows when to turn it off at the correct time which is great. The cats are starting to warm up. The pup just wants to play and be close to them but the cats run off and then the dog will plop down, sulk and whine for a few seconds. Kind of funny. Then she is right back up and going again.

Right now we are kennel training her, which is going well, she likes the kennel and voluntarily naps in it during the day.

Cute pup. Can't help you on the heritage mystery.

I will tell you to start getting her used to having her nails trimmed regularly. My older dogs nails grow like weeds and I have the scratched up wood floors to prove it.This may sound crazy but I use my Dremel tool with a small drum sanding wheel to sand down their nails. It's a hell of a lot easier than the old style guillotine cutters and no risk of hurting them. Just have to get them used to the tool and from there it is a breeze. Just did the new pups nails the other day and he actually just sat there and didn't mind it a bit.

That's a cute pup! As said, trim the nails, bathe her and feed her from your hands for a week or so. This is the dog's best learning period, use it wisely.

and don't feed it scraps! Food (dog food) from the bowl or your hand.

That's the same method I use. Having to do 3 sets of 4 at a time it is the only way to go. Especially when they fricken' hate it.

It's odd about the feeding. She will NOT eat out of the stainless bowl. It's like she is scared of it. She drinks the water fine, but won't get near the food unless it's by hand, or straight on the floor. But she won't knock the bowl over to get to the food. Bonnie thinks it's the "tinny" sound of the food in the bowl that she doesnt like. I'm at a loss on this one.

Looks like she is getting a new bowl.

And thanks for the tips on the nails!

I'll throw out one more bit of training advice. Easy on the toys. A good chew toy is needed as she is a pup but stay away from the stuffed animal kind of toys. Not only are they a chocking hazard it can also confuse her as to which toys are hers (OK to play with) and which belong to the kids. Not the greatest idea to get hers used to chewing up stuff that looks like things around the house!

I'd guess more like anxiety. My female boxer, while she will eat out of her bowl occasionally, almost always grabs some food and brings it into the kitchen area (where people are present), drops it on the floor and eats it there. She's an eating exhibitionist, I guess.

See if she'll eat from the bowl if you sit down close to her. When she gets hungry enough, she'll eat from it, anyway. Important thing is to only put the food down when it is time to eat. Don't leave it sitting there all day.

Do you dictate when the pup eats or leave food out?

Try not feeding in the am and wait till she's just godawful hungry...she'll eat!

That's what my manicurist uses on me, too. ;)
