New floors

Just guessing from my Facebook this afternoon, I'll likely regret posting this

However, they finished up installing the wood floors in the downstairs this afternoon. Like the color even better than I did with the small sample now that it's installed. The floor is a handscrapped product made by Johnson and I believe the color is "Dallas".

That is NICE. :pbj

My son-in-law did their house with wood florring. Is yours over concrete? His was and used a foam under layer. Its what was recommended but now the floor seems too soft/springy...not right in my opinion for a wood floor.

Ours is sitting pretty much on top of the concrete.

They came over Monday and ripped up all the old carpet / tack boards and leveled the floor...we got lucky there because there were only two spots that needed to be leveled (they charge by the bag)

Tuesday they came over and painted the concrete with a moisture barrier and let that dry over night. Wednesday they installed the wood. My house still smells like Elmer's wood glue but that doesn't smell as bad as the moisture barrier / sealer they used.

Nice title. :nk

I'd love to get real hardwood floors in my house one day. Right now, it's the fake looking wood laminate. I'ts pretty but it was installed wrong. It's warping and overlapping in some area's. :po

Does the painted on moisture barrier also act as an insulator? I would think cold would be seeping through big time without something.

As far as I know.....it dries almost like a think coat of glue. We have a pretty thick foundation though. In the front beds you can see a good three to four inches of foundation before the bricks start.

I wasn't there when they installed it though. For all I know they may have put something down under the wood. I hope not though...can you imagine the grief I'd get if I had to post something about my wood being too soft/springy.... Some of the wood products come with some sort of padded liner already stuck on the underside.

I have to meet the main guy sometime in the next day or two so we can settle up. I'll ask him when I see him since you got me curious.

Is it a completely solid wood floor or a laminate with a solid wood top surface?
Nice, whatever the case may be. Just curious.

Looks great. We did wood floors a few years ago. Most floors are engineered now.
We have 3 cats and clean up so much easier now
