New job maybe

The traffic tickets that I have are a non issue with the new job. I found this out yesterday afternoon. So Monday evening I emailed the boss a 2 week notice saying I found a full time position with benefits, but thanks for the opportunity I was given.
I got a text message this morning saying He was going to offer me a full time job June 1st, wants to know if I will change my mind.

OK great, he is not making this easy.

I do like the current job that I have, the reason I want to leave is that I am a 1099 employee. That is no benefits, no taxes taken out, when there is no work he has little else for me to do. I finished the last round the beginning of December, so from December to March when I started the current cycle he had a total of 3 weeks of work for me.

What I do is inspect the fire alarm system in a grocery store. 2 times a year and all of the stores take just over 3 months to complete. So I will assume that he will keep me busy doing service work and helping with installations.

The new job will be servicing and installing alarm systems. It is a smaller company and the benefits are not as good. I will be starting out at my same wage with an increase after 90 days.

So I am here talking (typing) to you as well as myself. After months of trying to find a "real" job, submitting resumes, going on interviews, feeling depressed and worthless I am now in a good place. I have 2 people that want to hire me.

I do not like counter offers. I find too many times the person who took the counter is let go within a year. My 2 Cents say take the new job.

I'm with you, if the boss gave a damn about you, He would have already seen your potential and hired you full time and took care of you. Screw him and go for the new job!

Yep....time to move on...... If the boss didn't think you were looking, he is foolish.

Glad that things are "working" out.

If you stay with the current employer, what's to say he will not cut you back to 1099-status in the near future? Can you negotiate a pay raise with him as an incentive to stay? The new job will have an increase in 90 days. Is there a lot of turnover at the new job? If so, that may mean a bad employer. What is the overall stability of each employer? Long-established businesses?

I'd be inclined to go with the new job.

When it comes to a job, it's a very simple thing, do what is best for YOU. That's what every employer does (and must do).

When I left the last CPA firm I worked at to take the job I have now....they offered me the sun, moon and stars to stay. I figured if I had gotten to the point of finding another job then I was taking it. I knew if I had stayed any changes would have been short lived and in three months or less it would have been sos different day.

Your boss' offer kinda reminds me of the guy that proposes after the GF moves out.

He never had the intention of offering you a full time job on his own. Besides, if you had no work jan-march doesn't that tell you something about the market? It's obvious that soon enough your going back to 1099 status, only with no job prospects, so he gets to keep you even longer.

Another vote for the new job.
I used to do residential new constriction low voltage wiring for a small company. When the work was there, it was great. But if no new houses were being built, I'd work maybe twice a week helping with installs or service. I saw the writing on the wall and cut bait as soon as I found new employment. That place was the third and last time I ran wire for a living. All had the same workload problem.

Take the new job.
If you have to put a knife on his throad to get another job or a fulltime job , it will kick back somewhere in the future.
Negotiate a good deal with the future boss.

Another advantage of the new job offer is that by most standards it would be more favorably regarded as a "real" job whereas the other not so much. Could be important down the road should you want to get a loan, etc.

OK at first I admit I was going to keep the current job. I am comfortable there, for the most part I make my own schedule, as a "real" employee the benefits would be better. But after reading all of the opinions and the I WAS going to hire you part I feel it is time to move on. I am not burning any bridges, I will continue working and doing the best that I can until my time is up.
Thanks to everyone that put your 2 cents in.

There are a lot of articles on this exact topic. They make the offer but it sets a seed in both parties.

Hi Tim, glad to hear things are looking up for you. I also suggest the new job. Good luck.

Tim, my experience is that when an employer counters your notice with more money, better position or the like, you a just a band-aid until he can hire someone else to replace you!

Any employer that doesn't sit up and take notice of a good thing now will not do it later either, so with all this said and all the above responses, I would offer this advice....

TAKE THE NEW JOB AND MOVE ON!!!!!

Just my .02! You still have to do what is the best for you!

The boss was out of town on business last week. My normal start time for a Monday morning is 7am at the office. The boss called after 6am and left a voicemail, I was in the shower and my phone was charging. Do not come in until 8am and we need to talk. He still wants me to stay. A couple more text messages back and forth with me saying that I am not interested in staying. When I get there he was on the phone, so I sit in a chair in front of his desk. He says you are not going to stay so there is nothing that I can say to you? I said no and walked out of his office.
I get text message tonight "are you sure you do not want to stay and work full time here"
Then another message a minute later offering 2 bucks more an hour.

I did not respond to either message.
