New Job

Ponyman66

Yak, yak, yak
Figured I'd finally share some good news with my Stangfix friends. Five years ago I had applied for a Fed job with Customs and Border Protection. Several weeks ago they finally called and offered me a position (who says the government never does anything fast?! :sarc)....with one caveat, I had to pass one more physical fitness test. I had to drive down to Brunswick, Ga yesterday so I could be at the test at 6:30 this morning. Well, I passed everything. I already had a starting date given to me when they offered me the position. In just over two weeks I will no longer be a city police office, but instead go back to Federal law enforcement. The great news is the position was right here at home...no moving necessary! For information purposes, CBP comes under the Department of Homeland Security. Now, knowing I'll be working for DHS, don't ya feel more secure already?! :guns

I'll still be able to attend MBB this year (it's the same week I start the academy in Brunswick, but I get weekends off!). The downside is that the 50th anniversary festivities next year will probably be a bust. I've really looked forward to it for the past five years! We'll see though.

Damn Feds... :guns

j/k

Congrats on the new job.

So is giving notice at your current job going to be a good thing or a fun thing. :pop

That's sweet!
Guess the gov't HR department was a little busy to get back to you sooner...
Sheesh

Congrats!

Great news....Always good to have a CBP employee on Stangfix
Congratulations and all the best of luck

Congratulations on the new job. I worked for U.S. Customs in the late 80's (way before their merger) as a Special Agent and it took 2 years for the application to wind it's way through the hiring maze, 4 months training at Glenco too. Good luck with everything.

Thanks very much everyone. While it means taking away some "Mustang time", it means more bucks for them!

It'll actually be both. I left this job for Border Patrol almost 8 years ago. When I left everyone in my command said how much they'd miss me and I was welcome back. I didn't see my chief because he was out of town. When I came back, they all treated me like crap! I went through a number of years of putting up with BS from them (hence my app for CBP). This time, I'm going straight to the chief (a different one now), THEN let my supervisors know. I'm hoping when they feed the chief a line of bull, it'll blow up on their faces! I've known him for many years and he doesn't play their game. I don't think he cares too much for most them anyhow (they were put in place by the old chief), hehehe

Damn government freeloaders... :whis

ABSOLUTELY!! The wife has been employed by the Feds for almost 20 years. I always tell she's a Fed "employee", not a Fed worker. That would be an oxymoron! LOL She was with with Customs back in the late 80's when we lived in Savannah.

I will indeed be at Glynco FLETC.....for four months! I've never been there, having spent my Border Patrol academy time in either Charleston, or in Artesia, NM after they moved it there. Guess I'll get to see what "Club Fed" (the nickname for Glynco), is all about now!

Tom I actually took the Customs Agent exam back in '90/91 when I hit the 10 year hump in the military. What a bear! I didn't have a degree and was told I didn't have much of a chance. I stayed in the military for another 5 instead!
