New Job

Well I got the phone call today, job offer for a new position at a hospital co. corp. office :yah. I hope to be doing some traveling, I'm comfortable with up to 50% but doubt I'll do any for the first couple months or more it sounds like. They are rolling out a patient portal (view your records online - labs, etc.) to all of their facilities and needed a director to oversee it so it's a new position I was asked to apply for by their recruiter. I worked on a patient portal at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville for a year, then moved onto my current position as Health Information Mgmt. director at an acute hospital for past 2+yrs. TMK there are only 3 people in the state with portal experience so they were eager to talk to me and not have to relocate me.

The corp. position will be a step up and hopefully regular hours. I've been working 10-12 hour days and having to go in some weekend days (6 hours last sunday) just to keep up with needs. Current job is 1hr. from my house (40mi.) so I am getting home after 7p or 8p most nights and it's wearing on me. I will have to break it to my CFO tomorrow, he's a nice guy and just been there a year. I know it will be a big loss to him as I am very involved in the revenue cycle. It's a rural facility and it took them 8mos. to find me. New job is 25mi. and 30min. drive AND there are 3 breweries including a Tilted Kilt nearby (edit, found out there is not one nearby but at least 3 good watering holes)....

My interviews were with 8 ladies, pretty common in health care, especially medical records. My current staff is 38 women, with me as the only male and the director. I keep saying 'There's no crying in baseball!' (Tom Hanks - A league of their own).

I start the Monday after the 50th in Charlotte (4/21) as I let them know it was already planned. :pbj

First rule is YOU MAY NOT CALL ME 'PORTAL JON' :ns
(I'm actually thinking of using that to end presentations I may give)

Congrats on the new position. :thum Lots of medical people here in my family. SWMBO is a RN working for the county in disaster preparedness, SIL works at a doctors office (our doctor), MIL before she retired worked in HR medical insurance stuff, daughter is going to end up somewhere in medical industry as is my nephew. (Both in college)

And about your name :hmm I worked at a place that had another Tim, better yet he was also Tim W, so some called me Tim 2, (the other Tim was Tim Wright) I liked Tim not right. :mark

Again hope you have shorter hours in your new job, long days are no fun.

Good for you! I hope it turns out to be even better than expected. Always fun to take on new challenges.

I am commuting 110 miles each day to my job. Usually making phone calls on the way in and home.

43 months to go to my 'release date'.

Congrats on the new job. A change is like taking a vacation!

Thanks everyone, my boss is so busy I couldn't get a 30 min. meeting with him until 5pm today. He's so buried also I'm worried of how he will take it. I am putting in 30 days notice but it just fell that my last week will be my pre approved vacation week at the 50th...so I've only got 3 weeks to clean up everything.
Healthcare is definitely hopping to keep up with all the govt. regulations good and bad.

Tim, I like the 'not right' naming but I bet Tim 2 didn't...
Jon

Congratulations! The change will do you good. If the new job is in downtown Nashville, the commute might be a few minutes longer than expected as traffic seems to be getting worse all the time. It's almost getting to be like a big city around here!

Hey Gary, luckily it's in Cool Springs/Franklin area so I can take back roads or 840 from Smyrna. Getting to Vanderbilt downtown used to take me an hour to go 20 mi.
Jon

That's good. The last time I worked downtown, we were staring at 5:30 am and getting out of there a 1:30 just to avoid the traffic.
