New Positive Caster Upper Control Arm from Global West

Hi:

FYI, I was looking at the Global West website about an hour ago, and on the first "page" they are now offering an upper control arm with 3 degrees more positive caster offset essentially built in for 64s to 73s. From there, using the shims/strut rod adjustments on 64s thru 66s, you should be able to get up to about an additional 3 degrees or so. Postive caster is tremendously important to a car which goes smoothly and straight down the road, and is the least understood of all the alignment factors and a real problem on stock 64s to 66s. One good thing about this is that there do not appear to be any other adjustments you have to mess with on the arms, unlike a similar upper control arm offered by TCP that is full of adjustment features, and many opportunities to mess things up. I called them and they claimed you didn't have to change springs, perches etc., and that it was new and they were in the process of getting the word out. Several months ago I was mentioning to "Opentracker", I think, that someone needed to manufacture something like this that was essentially a stock UCA with more of a positive caster offset built in, and it now looks like they have.

I've always wondered why that was not on the market a longgggggg time ago. Great to know it will make alignments easier.

I did place a shim between the shocktower and the front bolt of the UCA to achieve more caster.
The front wheel is still positioned in the center of the wheelopening without any chance it will touch the fender front or rear when turning the wheel.
John at www.opentrackerracingproducts.com told me to try this.Great suggestion.!!
Thanks John.

I've been doing that with my arms for years now, nothing new here.

I'm running +5 degrees of caster, no shims and my wheels centered in the wheel arch...

Could you explain this a bit more---the previous poster said he used a shim, you say that you have been doing that for years, then you say you don't use shims?

Thanks!

Yeah, I've been making upper arms with adjustable caster for years. No shims required if you so choose.

Thanks--I see. Do you make them for commercially/for sale or just for your own cars?
