So I have a number of things left to do on the car including the exhaust that require welding. So far i have managed to get by with my el' cheapo unit but at times it has been a real pain in the ass, to be honest. So...

Meet my new best friend!

I will just be using the MIG function for now but plan to invest in a torch and pedal to enter into the world of TIG soon enough. Also like the idea of the spool gun for doing aluminum too. I have all kinds of neat ideas for stuff I could make!
Next stop is the gas supplier to get some tri-mix for the stainless exhaust. It's only 409 but I think it best to not try and get by on 75/25 with the stainless 308 filler wire I bought. Unless somewhere here who knows anything about the subject cares to direct me differently? I'm a pure novice at this and will take any input.

Nice, I've been looking for a TIG but this is 120/240, MIG, Fluxcored, DC Stick, and DC TIG.
Let us know how you like it.

This is what finally sold me on getting it. For the cash its hard to beat given all it can do. You need to buy a few accessories to do everything (i.e. foot pedal and torch for TIG and spool gun is best for alumimum MIG) but it comes ready to do MIG/Flux and stick. I plan to invest it the TIG stuff soon. It is obviously not going to be the ultimate TIG set-up but for a hobby guy everything I found online seems to point out it is a pretty decent unit.

I decided to run new wire for this unit given the MONSTER plug it came with molded into the custom cord (one for 120 one for 220/240). It is actually a 50 amp plug so I wanted to run as large as I could given my circumstances to meet that rating. The welder itself is half that rating but if there is an outlet suited for a larger draw plug I figured it had better match. This meant I had to run new conduit as well given the large diameter wires needed would never fit in the 1/2" I originally ran. Only problem was my electrical panel is in the basement...the now finished basement. Yeah. Easy task took all day yesterday. Oh well. Now it's done.

Fired up the new unit after lunch today. First weld I made is already WAY BETTER than anything that old one could do. Super consistent arc, etc. I like it.
