New transmission - what to do?

My C4 is starting to slip again. I do not know if it is just old and warn out or it can not handle my 351W. I most likely will get the C4 rebuilt again but I want to start planning what to replace the C4 with.

I always have wanted to put a manual transmission behind the 351W., but what kind. What would y'all recommend?
cutting the transmission tunnel to fitting something is not off the table.

unless you plan on beating the hell out of it, you cant get any simpler on a swap than the t-5. i did my c-4/t-5 swap over the summer & it ended up being much easier than expected.

The strongest T5 is the T5z series with a torque rating of around 330 as to what Bruno and I are using. If you need something stronger, you might consider a TKO.

you could put a toploader behind it if you don't plan on doing much or any highway cruising.

When driving frequently ,you should opt for at least a T5 due to its overdrive.
just my 2 eurocent

I have the T5 in one car and the TKO in the other car.

I prefer the TKO to the T%. The first gear is a bit lower and the overdrive a bit higher. The TKO seems to be a bit stronger and for the $500 difference, you just can't go wrong.

If I ever get to do it again in the 67 I will put a TKO in it...In fact I have been toying around with a make over on the 67 and using a turn signal hood with a MII front suspension to get rid of the towers and put a 390 in it with a TKO.

The wife really wants a big block car and short of starting a fourth project I don't have money or room for, I can do her can and use her parts on the Triumph. Then the 65 can get a stroked 351 with it's parts going to a fourth project...Maybe a truck....

depends on the engine build (i.e. how radical), rear gearing, and use.

that's my opinion.

i have a TKO-600 in mine.

What is typically the gear ratio for 1st and 5th or 6th in the TKO's? For me, the first gear in Shag's T5z is almost worthless being so low (unless I did burnouts all the time). And 5th gear is so high that I need to have to tach up around 3k before I shift from 4th to 5th just to make a decent transition.

The t5z's gears are:
1st: 2.95
2nd: 1.94
3rd: 1.34
4th: 1.00
5th: 0.63

wide toploader's are around 2.78

aren't stock t-5's north of 3.30 in first?

my friend wants to put an overdrive tranny in his 6-pk challenger that has 4.11's. he spends 95% of his time at 50 mph and under. his longest drive is probably on the order of 20 minutes to local cruise in's and he won't ever take it on the highway (even with an O/D). changing to an OD tranny just doesn't make sense to me for that application as i don't think the engine would like cruising around town about 45 mph and lower in 5th.

some applications i see a lot of value with an OD.
