new wheels? narrowed down to 1 mainly due to $$, but a 2nd choice won't go away

ok, '67 coupe, standard drum brakes all around, relatively stock/lowered suspension, too.

i've narrowed my choice to the mb old school wheel in 17x8 front, 17x9.5 rear, gunmetal finish...have yet to see them on a car out in here in norcal! i like the price...$141 fronts, $144 rears, with a promo this month for $75 off a set of 4....that's cheap!! i was also thinking of doing 18x9 in the rear with a 235/40/18 tire. dunno... i like darreld's setup...

then, i ran into these boss 338 wheels...i like the machined finish on the center and polished lip, but they're available only in 18" and a little more $$.

what do you guys/gals think? pros/cons...stagger 'em width wise? stagger 'em 17/18 wise? go with 18"s?

thanks for your .02

I like the staggered look. I have 225/45/17 on 7" wide and backs are275/35/18 on 9" wide wheels.

Re: new wheels? narrowed down to 1 mainly due to $$, but a 2nd choice won't go a

yeah, i like 17"s up front, i think the 17 fills nicely, while the 18"s limit the amount of sidewall.
i think i'm going the lo-buck route....not only for the sake of $$, but i think my ride quality may suffer too much
with 18"s. i'm currently on 14's w/ 195/75/14 and i feel EVERYTHING the road has to offer.....

well, i will be going the mb old school route....i checked the 18"s and they're not offered with the correct backspacing.
so, i guess that was meant to happen. i'm going to try to get them before the end of october and will post pics...
i'll likely try for the stagger on darreld's ride...kinda gets me the best of both worlds.

I always thought 17" was pushing it, however it puts you on the cusp for clearance issues for front end components and 18" usually offer more clearance. Personally, I would stick with 17" as the 18" or larger approach the rubber band tires look. My choice between the two wheels is the classic smooth spoke in the first pic, the other withthe pointed spokes seems more "tribal".

Definitely pull your drums and wire brush/bead blast them and paint them in flat black if you haven't already.
