Oil Pan gasket - 3pc. or 1pc.?

Ok, I'm about to mount the oil pan (7qt. Milodon) and have the felpro 3pc. still in the package. I found the 1pc. for $30 online vs. summits $50 price and need to order other stuff for my current DD from the same place. Is it worth it to get the $30 one pc. since i'm at this stage or will the 3pc. seal fine if silicone is added in the corners? Hate to spend more money at this stage with parts in hand but don't want to make a mistake and have a leaky oil pan when I'm running at my first startup.
Thanks, Jon

First 2 times, I used a multi-piece. They eventually leaked. I using a one piece now and it has not leaked in 2 years whereas the other type leaked by now..

I had bad luck with my one-piece. Leaked right off the bat, all over the place. Switched back to a cork gasket and no leaks.

I've used a 1 piece several times with no leaks. Surface prep is key. Make sure the block side surfaces are oil free, dab of silicone where the cover, flats and radii meet, and don't over tighten the bolts.

Thanks for the answers, that was going to be my next question, did everyone using the 1 pc. still use permatex? Sounds like the 1pc. may have a better chance of being leak free with permatex in the usual spots.
Thanks,
Jon

I think the one piece gasket is the way to go.

They are much easier to install and much less likely to leak.

I've never used sealant with a one piece gasket. That said, none of those were SBFs, as the block is still sitting in my garage :shrug

One piece here, no issues. Its reusable, so if you ever need to remove the oil pan you don't have to get another gasket. The 4 plastic retainers that come with the gasket are priceless. You'll see what I mean when you go to install everything

My crate engine came from Ford with a very small dab of silicone in the places I suggested. When I swapped the Fox pan for the early style, I reused the gasket and followed what was had been done before. Not saying it's right, just sharing my experience.

Thanks for all the input, looks like the 1pc. is a worthwhile expense, especially as it's reuseable. I'll try it dry as Dave said the instructions call for.
Thanks again,
Jon
