Oilwellfixers 66 project

Back in like 2017 I posted my 66 coupe, and at the time I had done the motor, a new 347, trans, wiring harness, wheels and tires, and some interior goodies. But there was some major issues going on under that shiney new paint. 20180926_142333.jpg
The previous owner told me he had replaced both quarter panels. But the panels started developing a crack that went from the doors all the way to the trunk. I assumed there was some shrinkage going on with the body filler. Boy was i mistaken20181210_120904.jpg. This was the opening of a big a$$ can of worms. FYI about 90% of this panel was removed with a crappy stanley putty knife!! I have never seen welds just pop loose like that. An old welder friend of mine looked at the welds on the quarter panels and told me the guy welded them on with coat hanger. And the welds were only evry 2-3 inches apart. The repair panels that were on the car were welded in the same way and all were removed with minimal effort with a screwdriver or chisel would pop them off. The PO/builder of this car is lucky we never got rear ended or hurt driving this car. And should probably stop selling himself as a paint and body man with 30 years experience.
After looking and poking around in the suspiciously excessive amount of under coating and ROOFING TAR!!! I made a shopping list, and started ordering sheet metal. After filling up a spare bedroom with enough sheet metal to replace the rear end of a car, my project began.

So far, both trunk pans and transitions, inner and outer wheel houses, passenger frame rail, rear passenger pans, both full quarter panels, trunk lid, tail light panel, bumper mounts, rear valance, several home made patch panels, and entire rear suspension is now 4 link with adj coilovers.
More to come.

You can see the old trunk lid had a fair amount of rust, I opted to save time and replace it with a new Scott Drake. It was 1/2 narrower than the original so added some material to fix the big gap issue.

I feel your pain man ! Some 20 years ago I bought a 67 convertible and while restoring I noticed this car was built from 2 different cars !! I always tought it was a acapulco blue car as seen at the quarters panels but in fact it was orignally a springtime yellow color. Color of the cowl. And one side was longer then the other side of the car. That car still sits at my place midways its restoration.

Im having a hard time not publicly naming the seller. But at the end of the day its buyer beware.
My wife wanted this car, and being the good husband i turned a blind eye to the issues i was seeing. And taking lemons and making lemonade.
She has no idea how therapeutic for me this has been tho. Lol.

After buttoning up a few loose ends, I took it out for a shake down. And it went well.

Forgot to mention during the completion of the rear half, i was moving back home to Washington state 1200 miles away. So it was tricky juggling this and packing you know?

Home for now. This garage is on the small side but it'll do for now20201012_202922.jpg
CJ pony parts sells a pretty nice kit for a power disk brake conversion, rear brakes on.20201025_094740.jpg
As of now I'm doing the shelby/arning drop, with 620# and new 1" front sway bar, lowered springs with drilled and slotted rotors.

Looks like you have a 4-link setup in the rear ?
Which brand ?

Yeah I put a 4 link in it, its a cheap kit. Not sure who is the manufacturer. It was a scratch/dent sale and sold as having rust and was advised the panhard bar might not fit due some inconsistencies in the frame bracket. but it went in without a hitch. Its a PITA to adjust. But for the little I've driven it, its a huge improvement over the worn leaf springs, and air shocks, with those long a$$ shackles hanging down. Tracks straight down the road, and doesnt do anything scary when you spin the tires.
As soon as I wrap up the disk brakes and front suspension work im done working on it for a while.......except the MTF one piece headliner and loading both doors with glass and regulators...
I just want to play with it for a while and actually enjoy the car.

Moved some junk out of the way and moved the mustang over for a few days. I need to wrap up the brakes. Im just double checking evrything ive done and getting ready for fluid.

Im sure this has been covered here, but for all doing any brake work on these. Id test fit the brake light switch on this little bugger, before you end up, on your head, upside down cussing, in the drivers seat.
I ended up taking quite alot of material off the end of this new shaft otherwise the brake light switch and the shaft are a no go.
