OK, so a guy walks into a hanger

I saw this cool plane flying over Ames the other day and while coming back from the paint store this morning, we passed an open hanger at the airport and saw the same plane. Turned around and drove up. Thankfully the owner/pilot was there having just got back from a flight. Got to meet the inventor of the Kreg Jig (woodworking tool for joining face frame parts etc...) Craig Sommerfeld. He gives rides to kids/adults with special needs! He bought it a few years ago from a retired Marine pilot that had restored it in Marine colors. IIRC, the Marines didn't use the T-34 though. Could be wrong, I was so excited to check out the plane, I missed half of what he said :whis

We talked about him coming to the next Challenge Air event (kids with disabilities get to ride for free). Maybe I could ride in the back seat and help with the upkeep!

Nice Beech....

Check to make sure he had the AD done on the wing spar before you fly.

English man.

Their wings have been known to crack and fall off.

Not all but what do expect after 50 years.

Ahhh, OK

The owner said it was fully restored just a few years before he bought it. Other than bug splatters, it still looked fresh, especially the engine!

Marines did indeed have T-34Cs...certainly in Training Command. I did an exchange tour with the Navy as an Instructor Pilot at Whiting Field 1999-2002 and we had a handful of T-34s painted with "Marines" on them.

The airplane rocks as far as building basic stick and rudder skills...
