OKay...lets discuss Battery cables

So what gauge cables are you using for the Pos/Neg cables?
Are they the same gauge?

What about from the solenoid to the starter?

I can find 2AWG Pos and Neg cables but only 4AWG for the starter cable. Any suggestions?

All the 1 AWG I found were lenths where YOU customize to your needs.....bigger $$$ than the local parts houses.

You can find larger guages at locations that sell truck parts (heavy duty). However, I'm using 2 ga from the trunk bat to solenoid, then the 4ga that was on the car to the starter. I have less than /5 volts drop to the solenoid. Never measured the solenoid-starter drop, but a 4 ft section of 4 ga at 275 amps will have a drop of .27 volts. SAE spec for starting circuits is (IIRC) less than 10% (1.26 volts) - with 4 gauge from the batt to solenoid & starter, you would still be under .35 volts drop (in the wire).

In otherwords, don't worry about it. Make sure you have quality cables with good connectors - that is usually the problem, not wire guage. Soldered connectors are best if you can find them, or you can make your own soldered cables.

4ga is fine for standard battery location. I'd use 1/0 for the positive on a rear mount battery. Longer cable needs to be thicker.

I am using 1 gauge from the trunk. 4g from solenoid to started and 2 gauge from alternator (3g alternator). I used the battery relocation kit from Summit for the 1 gauge, a Taylor braided for the starter and made my own for the alternator wiring. I went to a local Ace and purchased welding wire, lugs and solder for my alternator cable.
