old school definitions needed: "rake" and "dump"

Please settle a bet I have with a guy at work.

He claims to be old school and says "rake" is when the front end is higher than the rear (like an old Gasser) and "dump" is when the front is lower that the rear (like most of our car's stances.)

I say "rake" is when the front is lower than the rear (like most of our car's stances), I've never heard of "dump" in relation to a car stance.

Thanks for any info.

For my entire life, rake was the rear high, front low....like a few of my past cars. Dump always referred to the exhaust.....a short pipe off the muffler/header that exited under the car.

Rake on a motorcycle refers to the length and angle of the front fork in relationship to the frame.

I've never heard the term "dump" in relation to a car's stance either. To me, "rake" has always meant higher in the rear.

At least from the 70s and 80s when I grew up, Rake is the front lower than the back. dump is when all four corners are lowered into the weeds so to speak.

All this talk is making me think about picking up leaves in the yard then going to the bathroom. :nta

I always thought rake was higher in the back as everyone else has stated... never heard the term dump before in regards to stance, but perhaps with the raised fronts on some gasser cars folks associate the stance with that of a dump truck bed... just guessing.

never heard the term dump used to describe stance. dragging in the back like my neighbor's dog doing his business in my front yard?

I thought about it again, I did "Dump" the front end on a bug in the early 80s.

Dunno if this is what you are after.

The meaning may be regional too. I was West Coast and was considered a "Surfer" even though I never surfed.

Mark's engine took a dump at the end of the front straight whilst going WFO.

Hmmm...

I've always considered "rake" as a term used to describe the angle of a car in relation to a flat surface. Not only for when the rear is higher than the front (positive rake), but also when a car is level (zero rake) and when the front is higher than the rear (negative rake).

I believe we could call this ("lethal" rake) also. :lol
And when the front is lower than the rear (negative rake), it is called the AZPete rake.
