ordered some MB Old School wheels today.....need tires...

so i ordered the wheels today, america's tire is running a great deal that i couldn't pass up. 17x8 front, 17x9.5 rear.
now, on to tires. i know the typical setup is 245/40/17 front and 275/40/17 rear, but i'm thinking of going a different route.
i've seen a set on a '68 coupe and i'm thinking of going 235/40/17 up front or and 255/40/17 rear.
why? i think that by pulling the sidewalls closer to the rim, it'll square up the tire and make it less rounded on the sidewall, thus it'll tuck under the fenders a bit better.
i want the car to sit low over the whole tire and not on top where the outer edge of the tire is directly under the fender lip. does that make sense? tuck-in, that's the goal.
anyone running some different sizes than the 245/40 and 275/40 setup?

a 255 spec tire may be a little narrow for that 9.5" rim. i'm running 285/40's on 9.5" rim & the sidewall is almost flat with the treadwidth the same as the rim width. another thing to look at is overall diameter. how much open space do you want around that tire?
