painting stripes?

My first encounter with painting stripes over the hood/trunk,etc> was not very impressive at all! I used the blue masking tape, and when I pulled the tape off, the paint had bled a little onto the main color(orange).
What is a correct way to paint my stripes(when I get around to it)?
I'm working on welding my rear valance today.

I also found it better to remove the tape after the stripe sets up and before the paint cures.
This helps from lifting the edges of the stripe.

Yes, doing this also seems to lessen the knife edge effect. There is still a noticeable edge but it does not seem as sharp.

We use the blue fine line tape. Just make sure you have pressed it down firmly, and between each coat I always keep pressing it down. I wait about 10 minutes then remove the tape. Rich.
