PCs and other hardware to communicate with the world....

Get off my lawn!
Yeah I'm getting older by the day.
All the latest PCs and hardware are just scary.......

Now while is was working I witnessed the birth of the Personal Computer. Dam that first one was huge. So I have seen the progress of same.
Now I know there is a physics reason for non-moving electronics to go bad but really?

I have a laptop plugged into a docking box which controls the Mouse (yep love a mouse), Monitor, Keyboard (yep key board over the laptop version), external speakers and earphones.
So a few moths ago the monitor acts up and doesn't work. I move the plug over directly to the laptop and it works albeit with a little discolor upon start up.
I'm thinking its the docking box that was the problem. Monitor works fine. Last week the monitor starts to go crazy. Flicking and acting strange that I can't view it.

So yesterday I buy a LG monitor at Costco...huge 27" compared to my old Dell 16".
Go to BestBuy and buy what the sales girl says should work with my OLD laptop (not USB-C)....$80+
Today I plug in the monitor to the laptop. Monitor comes on but asks a question.....I have no mouse control on this new screen how can I answer yes/no?....nothing goes on.....then to the dock...nothing. Oh there's a on/off directional button UNDER the screen. Plug back into the laptop and use the 'button' to answer yes/no. Bingo....monitor ON.
Unplug and move it to the docking box. Works there too.
Now a trip back to BB for the docking box return.

Really liked the days at work when if the PC acted up you called someone up and said fix it. Not so easy now.

Why is your kid constantly riding his bike on my driveway???....get off my driveway!!!!

I am by no means an expert, but as the saying goes I know a little bit about everything. At my home I am IT. Computers, monitors or anything electronic. Most of the time the when all else fails reboot works. But there are times when I just shrug my shoulders and mumble Ida know. Like with this laptop I am on right now. 3 USB ports and 1 does not work. I googled a fix, but it something I will have to make time for someday. ;)

Quite honestly these things aren't made to last that long. Non-moving parts deteriorate due to repeated heat-cool down cycles.

That said, I've been in IT for 35 years starting as a mainframe operator. I hate personal computers with every fiber of my being.

Get them moths off your lawn too! They will raise hell with the root structure.
Remember when we could buy a TV at the local TV store and just plug it in? Now you have to hire an installer. This technology stuff is a bitch. (Bangs cane on floor).

I used to talk to my son about the "so what?" clause. If you put up the sign you have to shoot a few of em to make em understand that you're serious. BTW, he has two little boys of his own now and he also subscribes to the "so what?" clause. No penalty means no prohibition.

When I was ten years old my folks bought a brand new tract home on a corner lot. Some of the neighbors didn't believe in the leash laws and my dad hated having to shovel someone else's dog crap. That's how I got my first BB gun.;)

Believe me there is penalty behind the sign. About 10 years ago, I escorted a whole tree cutting crew that I found on the back 24 acres, to my house where we call the sheriff on them. Told the sheriff to trespass them and they could get their equipment when they paid for and cleaned up the damage.

When I was in college my path to classes was past the women's dorms. One of the ground floor tenants had a sign in the window that read
"trespassers will be violated". I always wanted to meet that girl.

When I was at the student health center at UCSD, I saw a gal wearing a sweatshirt that said on the back promoting a local bank:
Substantial Penalty For Early Withdrawal

OMG!

Yeah. Before women (or whatever they're calling themselves this semester) were trained in college to become an angry minority.

Sorry to say this, but women are a majority. They live longer than us men due to their nagging us to death.
