Yes, you heard it correctly. Maybe it was that big ole log I smoked last night.
First a little history of this mechanical thorn that kept irritating me throughtout the trip.
On our first day, I noticed that periodically I was having problems shifting down from 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to 1st. Then shifting into reverse started acting to the point that I would grind gears just to get it where I wanted. This was late friday and all day Sat.
I called the firm who I rented the VW from and he said it sounds like there might be air in the hydraulic clutch lines. Here I am driving out in the middle of the frickin redwoods, going into a weekend with no frickin mechanics around.
We survived Sunday with very little driving but on Monday I found a mechanic in a small town who agreed that it sounds like air in the line. I helped him bleed the system and suddenly it was working like a champ.
He did question how air got in there and what will prevent it from happening again. Nevertheless I paid the bill and off we went for our return trip.
Tuesday's trek was fantastic.
Today's trek was also great.........until
......we got within 2 hours of home (novato,ca). Suddenly same symtoms reared their ugly heads to the point that I had to find another shop for there was no frickin way that camper and we were going to make through the hills of San Francisco with those problems.
After visiting a couple shops we finally got one that was willing to help. I agreed that both master and slave cylinders needed replacement. Called the rental company and they agreed. Unfortuneately the slave cylinder would not be available until tomorrow. Yes, we're staying at the Best Western here in Novato. Hopefully it will be ready by 11ish tomorrow.
Where's that beer when I need one?
So tonight's dinner.....chinese food delivered.
