I picked up an ASTEK Mole video camera at Costco this past weekend. I am planning on putting on the perimeter of our house for security reasons.

Anyone had experience with these in general and comments?

this unit looks real nice as it's wirelessly connected to my network.

From what I can see from the link that you provided it looks like a nice camera. The ring of LEDs provide illumination in low level light applications, and it should switch to black and white. In low level light black and white makes for a better picture. The web site mentions motion detection, are you able to choose the area of detection? On the better fixed cameras that I have installed when setting up for motion detection you get a grid and are able to pick the areas in the grid to look for motion. For example your camera is outside and there is a tree in the picture, anytime the wind blows the camera will be recording, but if you only choose a door and a path to the door then it will only record when someone or something is on the path or doorway.

I just looked at the Costco web site and did not see your camera, it was a store item? It depends on the district that the store is in as to what they carry. Once in a while I will go down to the Lake Elsinore Costco, because they are in the San Diego region and carry a few different things than the LA region stores in my area. :hs

It was listed in Costco's Aug / Sept coupon booklet. I picked it up for $170.00

It has an email notify function as well...... I like it as it's wireless - in fact, I'm thinking of putting a small solar cell / battery on it so I don't even have to run the power cord to it.
