Pick up Max (our boxer) tomorrow afternoon.

The vet called and said he is eating watered down soft food and drinking some so I can pick him up tomorrow, still no results on whether it is cancer or not, I did ask the receptionist if they had some kind of bill put together yet and she asked if I was sitting down, she said as of today it was $956. there will be another overnight charge and medicine for home on top of that, I already had a $151. bill to start with. I would not have done anything different if I had asked for a estimate before he started. I have to live with the wife who loves that dog. The grand daughter said after we dropped him off on the 23rd "Max is a great dog". I just hope and pray we bought him a few quality years. Thanks for all the posts and thoughts. Rod

Thats good to hear! I feel the same way as far as cost, they become family. Its hard to put a :$$$ on that!

I am glad to hear things worked out. I spent over $800 plus two drives for two hours each way to San Diego from Brawley 10 years ago on our 80 pound corki, shepherd mix.

One of our dogs is getting so old and kind of feeble and deaf, so when she starts to have problems, I'll likely put her down. I don't want to sound cold or cruel, but I think I can just take her out in the North 40 and put her down. It will be the hardest thing I will ever do! It does have to be done though.

These pets do become family and I would never allow one of my family members with four legs to suffer! They suffer when we don't take care of their medical needs.

I am so happy your four legged family is OK!

Glad to hear Max is coming home. Hope the cancer screen comes back neg.

It was torture when I had to take my weimeraner in when he was 7 wks old. Poor guy got some kind of parasite and he was one sick puppy. Wouldn't eat, couldn't stop making messes, and was almost lifeless. Took him in to the emergency vet and they kept him for a day or 2. After the overnight charges, meds, and such, the bill was close to $500. Course, for that, they could have at least cleaned him. He was covered in his own filth and stunk like all get out. I paid, read them the riot act for not at least taking a damp cloth to him, then left...never to go back to that vet. The regular staff wasn't in on the weekend, so it was nothing but college kids who were cramped about being at work on a sunday. The wife took one of the cats there later on and told them what happened with our dog.
That dog may be a pain in the butt most of the time, but he's my buddy and I'd sell half my stuff if I needed to for him. Same goes for any of the 4 cats we have as well. My wife calls the animals "fur persons", except the dog, she calls him "you butthole" most of the time.

Great news Rod, he'll be happy and playful before you know it.

glad to hear he's coming home!

My uncle had a boxer several years ago that swallowed a small ball of some sort and got an intestinal blockage.

I want to get the boys a boxer eventually...however at the moment we already have two cats, a dog and three hermit crabs. My pet quota is full until one or more of the current pets dies off.

Glad to hear Max is going home. Did the very tell you anything on what they found? I know what your talking about as far as the bill. I just had one of our cats in for an ear problem. Over $400 so far and climbing.

Max was sure glad to see me today, he is laying by me now in a new dog bed I got so he doesn't have to jump up to his usual resting spot, should have test results tomorrow.

yeah, he cut out the affected section of intestine, Max is himself almost, except for being skinny, he is very hungry, giving him a prescription food---1/4 can 4-5 times a day.

The one we have that cost $800 for the reconstructive knee surgery is also named Max, well short for Maxi. (Female) She also cost me $200 for a vet bill to stay in the hospital for a week when she was a puppy with parvo. She ate a bunch of lamb poo and got it.

Nasty stuff.

I am happy to see Max is home. they do become family!

Rod,
Very glad to hear of such results. I can imagine how happy Max is being back home. I better hear reports of him being spoiled.
