Piecing together a shaker for 70 Mach

I want to convert my 70 Mach to a shaker. I am ok with repo's but have never liked the fiberglass base or fiberglass scoop. I have the OEM 4V air cleaner with lid, and have purchased a Scott Drake intermediate plate. I understand the later model scoops are cast aluminum and compatible with 69-70 with the adapter. Did OEM have this adapter?

I know I still need flapper plate, shaft, actuator, rubber seal and some other odd and ends. I am curious how the late model setup differs in looks when installed on 69-70 cars.

by adapter are you talking about the piece between the scoop and midplate that the seal wraps around?

like in this picture?

Yes, exactly that, thanks for responding. Was that part used on an original shaker or did the scoop mount directly to the mid plate?

Thanks, good to know so I am headed in the right direction. There is a dealer on eBay that is selling new FoMoCo cast hood scoops with the adapter plate for around $200. I negotiated price with him on those two items. I still have to get the other stuff. When its said and done I probably could have bought a repop cheaper but at least this one will be all metal.

On another note, the vacuum actuator looks very much like the two way actuator on an AC airbox. Has anyone retrofit one of those? I see them in repo and they are pricey.

Thanks, will keep that in mind! One other thing, the intermediate plate I got was a Scott Drake blem. It did have a small dent that will be easy enough to straighten, but what about these two pop rivets? They dont hold anything and are pretty long. Is there supposed to be some thing there in place? Sorry for all the dumb questions...

so they are slotted holes in the actuator bracket or ? Should there be a pair of loose rivets in those holes? It just looks odd.

i don't believe they are slotted in the bracket. my guess is that you'll need to install two new rivets when you buy the actuator.

i don't use the flapper and vacuum.

i have some photos of a real 351w shaker base if you need them for reference. i was thinking you were considering adding some sort of trim ring to your stock base.
