Pit crew in training

Yesterday the boys got curious and started helping me with a project on the Trans Am.

Today when I got home Jeff was bugging me to work on the car pretty much as soon as I got home. Luckily I had some projects on the TA (and the gaskets to do the project) but I think I have a couple of little gear heads on my hands, LOL!

Back story..last couple of days I've pulled the AC compressor and while it is out of the way I replaced the gasket on the long tube header on the passenger side, replaced the spark plugs that would be a serious pita to get to with the AC in the car, etc. To get the plug wires out of the way I was going to need to remove a couple valve cover bolts anyway so I decided to take the cover off, have a peek underneath then install a new gasket.

The boys helped remove four of the five valve cover bolts, helped me get the long tube bolted back up and were generally very helpful giving my back a break from leaning over the fender. They have to stand on a tool box to reach, LOL! Need to order a new AC compressor and then finish putting it all back together but making progress.

Pictures because the :rulz dictate it didn't happen without pictures.

That's great. I wish I could have had that experience.

Yeah...me to.

Both my dad and step dad are / were the most non-mechanical people you will ever meet. Though one time when I was about 17 I helped my step dad put new plugs, wires, cap, etc in a high miles Nissan truck he owed. After while I told him to go watch golf and I'd let him know when it was done, LOL! He couldn't afford to pay a shop to do the work so what the heck...

In high school I was going to a church where the pastor was one of the best mechanics you'll ever come across. He used to do a lot of car work for people that needed help and would charge them at most the cost of the parts. I used to go over and help him every chance I got. We helped a high school buddy of mine rebuild his motor one time and his daughter had a old Datsun Z car that we were always fixing something on. He helped me fix stuff on my various cars several times. Learned a lot but in hindsight I wish I had spent even more time helping him work on cars and less time chasing around his daughter I was dating :)
