Pressure washer question

Our pressure washer has gas in the oil. Any suggestions on where to start looking or is it even feasible to fix it?

Sounds like a carb flooding/leaking issue. Talk to a lawn mower shop for parts and if you don't want to do the work. As always, how much to put into it vs buying new is a judgement call on you.

Be carefull with carb cleaner on those carbs, some of the rubber used is not compatible with it. ( I am talking about the spray can type)

When the engine last ran, how was the sound and power output? Did it run the pump OK?

What kind of pressure washer is it? Cold? Hot? GPM? PSI? Engine HP?

If the engine isn't totaled from the fuel ruining rings/bearings, it should be a simple and economical fix.

Off the top of my head 2800 psi, 7 or 8 hp, 3.5 gpm. It ran fine last time I used it. No issues at all. It will sit there and run until you hit the water nozzle and then it dies. I'm wondering if it may just be a seal, o-ring or something along those lines. A new 3000 psi, 8 3/4 hp, 3.7 gpm unit is $400 at Lowe's.

OK, so WOT no load is fine but it dies when load is applied?

Have you determined proper choke function? Sounds dumb, but take a look.

What engine make is it? I'll run a few questions past my best friend tonight, who's been a dealer for 20+ years. He's seen and repaired them all.

If you can replace or repair the carb for under 100.00, is the unit worth that investment? If it was a hot machine, no brainer, but a cold machine with a replacement cost of 400, not so sure. If the carb is bad (not just seals), that could run 100 bucks easy.

Correct on wot/load function. Choke is good, B/S engine and just a regular pressure washer you run your garden hose to. The machine is in great condition otherwise. I checked everything when it died and that's when I noticed gas in the oil. Thanks

Oh, a Briggs engine.... no worries...

Here's an example of a parts source:

As long as the engine runs and doesn't smoke (bad), I'd fix it. Even a new carb isn't that expensive.

Also, my Hotsy had a problem with the governor on the Robin engine and we had to experiment a bit with it to get full throttle under load. Finally figured it out though. Don't know if the B&S have a similar setup.

Good luck!

Duane, bring the PW to your local lawnmower repair shop. I've had mine take a dump on me a couple times and they've been able to fix it everytime.
