Put my car in its first show!

I've had my car for 16 years, today was the first time it was ever put into a show. MCA National here in Virginia Beach. For anybody who is here, I'm in spot 221 or the hospitality tent if you want to say hi tomorrow.

I put it in the modified class, but based on some comments from the judges not sure if that's where it needs to be.

I also got to meet both Charles Turner and Tim Lea. It was cool to put some faces to names from the forums. Didn't get much time to talk to either, but hopefully will get to hit them or at least one of the other judges up for some clarification tomorrow on what class my car should be in if I show it again.

I also couldn't resist getting the poster of my car with the P-51. I know that's probably one of the more common, if not cliche' choices, but I like it.

Sam,
Congrats in getting the green beast to a show and most importantly to meet Charles Turner.

Usually Classification does a good job. Did you check the MCA classes to see what best to put it in?

Yes. According to the rules on the website, a clone (my car is not a factory GT) would get credit for all of the modifications to make it a clone. The consensus today seemed to be that all the stuff I added, since they were mostly factory available options at the time, did not count. Seemed to be inconsistent in regard to the clone issue.

BTW, not complaining in any way, I'm just happy to have the car out there. Obviously since I've never cared enough to show the car in 16 years, its not that big a deal. Just got some conflicting info and was confused.

OK, think I know what happened. This morning I was there before 8 and was first in line. I told the guy at classification that it was a clone, but he told me he wasn't sure if they were going to count factory options on clones as modifications or not. I just now went through the rules again and they definitely should have been counted, but it also says the classification sheet should clearly state that it was a clone. Since I'm not the one who filled out the classification sheet, my bet is that they weren't sure about it so didn't put that it was clone on the sheet so the judges never got that info. I have never passed off my car as an original GT, I'm always very up front about it not being original.

I had it clearly on the list of mods that it was a clone, with the list in a 1" binder on the driver seat (from somewhere else in the rules), but the judges didn't look at it until I walked up and caught them as they were leaving and told them about it, so again, my bet is it wasn't judged as a clone.

I'll ask about it in the morning and see what they say.

Yeah, they goofed at classification. Not unusual, you really have to be up on them. They even messed up my coupe at Oklahoma when the judge put down concours trailered instead of Conservator for the class. Ended up being a pain and a waste of my time to get it all corrected. And, I had told him it was Conservator.

Thanks for the compliments, yes it was spot 221 (not sprayed well), and I ended up with a 3rd in the MC class.

I talked to the guy who did the classification (Rodney) and he said the points should have counted, and Patsy was right there and said that sometimes the word "clone" doesn't make it from the classification sheet to the judging sheet.

I'll request the judging sheet and see what it says. Assuming they judged it as a clone, I'm pretty sure I would have gotten max points for modifications and only lost points for some of the stuff I am not done yet.

Regardless of the judging, I had a great time, met lots of cool people, saw lots of cool cars, heard lots of cool stories. Definitely glad I got the chance to participate.
