Questionable trade??

I've got a guy wanting to trade me a 2000 Mustang V6 Auto 200K+ miles on the body 90k+ on the engine and trans. for a 351w that I have got built for the 67. I have little to nothing in this junkyard engine. The car runs out well and looks really good. The only hiccup is that he only has a bill of sale no title. It's in TN. I have found a legal way to get a title then transfer it to KY. What's the gangs thoughts on this.

What is the issue with the title and how will you get one? I tend to run from title issues.........

The title issue is kinda complicated. Let's just leave it that I can get a title legally.

If the car is for you and you're happy with the car and not concerned about a good title, go ahead. I'd be concerned about this being a flood/totaled car or similar and run away.

Without a title, I'd be running away from it pretty dang fast. Nothing worse than dealing with the DMV.

Car's in son's name, son's in jail, son lost title, can't apply for lost title from jail, father out legal fees, son said sell car, father wants money for engine for his father's old truck, I have engine, blah, blah, blah. I called TN DMV, they told me car hasn't been reported stolen, no liens.

Clean TN title according to DMV.

Dad can't mail son an application for replacement title to his son in jail? Doesn't seem all that hard to print this out - http://www.tn.gov/revenue/forms/titlere ... ill-in.pdf - mail it to son, son fill it out and mail it to DMV. :shrug

http://www.dmv.org/tn-tennessee/replaci ... -title.php

Or it also says..

If you can't get out of your house and don't want to apply by mail, you can send someone else to do your dirty work for you!
Whomever you choose as your victim must take the complete application and $5.50 fee to the County Clerk's office, along with two proofs of their own identification and a notarized power of attorney statement.

Unless there is some law that states folks in jail cannot ask for replacement titles? Sounds fishy that son/dad can't get a new title.

I say have Dad go to DMV and get the paperwork for the kid to add him to the title and then have him sign the car over.

or

Have Dad sign for son on a lost title form and do the paperwork.

In any case do the trade. Even if Dad has to go to son in the pokey and have son sign a lost title form. All prison visiting policies will have a provision for this.

I had thought about going to the jail and getting him to sign it to me. I think a carton cigarettes should do the trick. However, if this didn't work, I planned to do this...

They most likely let you give him anything. Just deposit $50 to his account.

Darn it, Smart Phones suck!

I ment they will likely tell you you can not give him anything. I don't know of any correctional policy within the US that will allow you to give him a carton of smokes. You can however put money on his account (books). I think you should contact the jail and ask if you can bring some paperwork for him to sign. It is legal stuff concerning the sale of some of his property. They will likely let you do it. After he signs the document for the title, put $10 on his account for him to buy his own ZooZoos and WamWams... BTW most correctional facilities have outlawed tobacco products.
