Quick answer on 2k winch?

That's the exact one I'm using now but I got it from Walmart. The disadvantage with it is I have to use the clutch (if you can call it that) to unload the car. This new one I have has a reverse built into the switch that will make it easier and safer to unload. The price in the link is high as I only paid about 20.00 for the ones I bought (clearance sale). I guess I'll bolt it down and give it a try.

Tomorrow will be the test at fun Ford at Bristol. I went ahead and mounted the little winch in the trailer and just moved the car a bit back and up and it didn't seem to strain. It moves a lot quicker than the old one and loading and unloading the car will be a lot quicker. Course that means higher gears and more than likely they are not as strong. I'm only pulling the car up the trailer ramp which is like 20* or so but are you suggesting a 4500lb winch for this?

Ya got me thinking about your question and I did a little research. That was actually easy because you posted the basic link that answered your question! Superwinch has an area on their website for helping to choose the proper size winch, to include a guide specifically for trailers! According to their chart, you should be fine.

Had the trial this evening. Went to the Fun Ford/Moper car show and had to make a quick load. Very nice weather until about 3PM and then the sky turned dark. They stopped the racing and the dude on the loudspeaker said a severe storm was on it's way. I guess the little winch pulled it OK but it seemed like it strained a little to get it over the hump. I may try to take about half the cable off the drum before removing it and going with a larger one. If it was geared just a bit lower it would have no trouble yanking the car in the trailer.

You could also double block it back to the trailer frame if you need more pulling power.
But that will slow it down.

Now that's a good thought. I would like it to travel a little slower and maybe I can change the angle of the cable a little so it will wind up better. It may solve the problem. :yah
