Radiator hose and clamps

What are you guys using for hoses and clamps? I was using the Spectra kit which is a stainless tube and chrome ends but I am not sure I want to go back that direction again with the new engine. Then ends were made of plastic and started to crack after limited use. I have also thought about a standard hose and Gates shrink fit hose ends but don't know how well they work.

I used the gates shrink fit on mine. I like the way they look, havent had any leaks in 1K miles I've put on the car.

I went with stock hoses, but used "constant tension" spring clamps like today's cars use from the factory. They're easy to use, perfectly reusable, and look much better than typical worm gear clamps. I got them at McMaster-Carr. Some parts houses carry them, too (but none around here).

You can see three of them in this photo. I used them for heater hoses, too.

Hello guys,

i use a samco sport hose kit with mikalor stainless clamps. Very awesome stuff. My cooling setup is a fox style but
a samco kit is for a "old" setup available too. :)

Concours-style hoses and Gates clamps. 6 years and 20k miles - no leaks.

If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't change a thing.

Yikes, $275. I might wait until I blow an existing hose before I plunk down that kind of money. I assume that the kit consists of all the front coolant hoses (4) and the two connecting the factory coolant tubes to the heater core?

Can I get some more details on how you incorporated the cold air induction elbow into your air intake? I assume that you cut a hole into the front apron to mount the elbow and the filter is in the wheelwell, but is there anything covering/protecting the filter to prevent road water from entering the filter?

I have a CAI kit, but am not using that portion of the kit as I'm unsure about what to do about the filter in the wheelwell.

Yes, 275 bucks is not cheap, i know. :$$$ First i use the samco hoses for my cai. For best match i bought the coolant hoses too. In the 5.0 HO kit there are all hoses i need. The two big in the front, the two little elbows on the water pump and the the two little twisted hoses behind the engine to the heater box.
In the kit for the old stangs are only the two radiator hoses. Samco have many universal hoses also.
My k&n filter is in the wheel housing. I shield it with a aluminium plate from the road debris and water. In the followed link you can see some pictures from my cai conversion (text in german :shy)

Markus,

Even though the link is in german, the pictures speak a thousand words, thank you! Since I already have the CAI kit, this is just the motivation I need to get out to the shop and get it done.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the ideas guys. I plan on using the chrome tube from the Vortech kit and some rubber ends to make the bends. I really like the clean look of the Gates clamps and purchased 4 of them. I got a size that says they will fit 1.5-1.75" hoses. The problem is I can hardly get it over the hose and then when I try to put the hose over the tube it won't budge. I tried putting the clamp on the tube and then sliding it over the end of the hose but I can't get it to go that way either.

How much bigger are the clamps when you first put them on? Should they slide on easily or be damn near impossible to install these things?

I'm thinking I need to get the next size larger.

I finally got the hoses mocked up but not clamped in place with the Gates heatshrink clamps. I still need to get a bolt for the PS bracket before I can put the radiator in. Thanks for the help guys!
