radio issue

The 6 disc CD changing radio on our 2003 F250 Turbodiesel crapped out (changer mechanism died). I replaced it with a JVC HDRadio unit and it works well, but I have an issue.

Every once in a while, when we leave the radio on and start the truck, it powers up and the display says 'miswiriing - check wiring and reset radio'. I then have to perform a hard reset which clears out my presets and settings.

It isn't the radio - I had a Kenwood unit that did the same thing and I returned it thinking the radio was faulty.

I'm thinking I need to put a power conditioner on the inputs to this radio.

Any thoughts?

Fixed it, without y'all.

Upon re-inspection, I was able to located a poorly crimped speaker return. Re-crimped and all is well. SWMBO now has a HD Radio tuner with blue tooth....

I would have helped if I knew anything about a JVC. The only thing I know about this subject is the crappy radios that Ford used. I have a 03 Focus that the radio was replaced and a 03 Ranger that the CD does not work.

Hmmmm....oddly enough, the radio told you what to do to fix the problem....hate it when electronics are smarter than they should be......glad you figured it out.

uh, Thanks, Mike.

Well, the problem is still there after some awesome advice. I can get the radio to 'lock up' (presents check wiring message on display) by starting the truck (radio was previously on) and as soon as the engine starts, place the transmission in reverse.

On our truck, when you place the transmission in reverse, the backup distance sensor comes on and the radio is muted.

I am going to solder all of the speaker returns and power connections and maybe run a chassis ground from the case of the radio to the truck ground and see what happens.

I will likely post on a ford truck forum this problem. I am sure someone has gone through this before.
