Raised my butt...

I've always thought that the height with the Global West springs was a tad too low.. plus they bottom out when I have the kids in the back seat.

So... following Opentrackers advice, I've been experimenting with modifying my rear leaf springs to obtain a better ride height. I bought an extra set of 4-leaf springs to use to augment my Global West springs. I took both sets apart and replaced 2 of the 5 GW springs which raised the rear almost an inch. After all the work, I'm pretty satisfied with the result. It still has a decidedly lowered look without the rear rake that Mustangs tend to have. Plus.. no more bottoming out.

After going through the process (swapping out one leaf at a time), I can swap out leaf springs on both side in less than two hours!!

I think all you did was put the top down and take the second pic at ground level to make it look higher :char

Yes, the level look is much better!

I like the level look, but maybe dropping the front would have kept it meaner looking! Still looks better than a droopy rear.

Actually.. the front is as low as the coilovers will let it go without making the front springs loose when there's no weight on the car (if that makes sense). I'd have to add a helper spring of some sort in order to lower the front more to keep tension on the springs.

My main motivation was to stop the bottoming out.. so problem solved...

On second look you might be right.. After just measuring agian, I think the net gain is about 1/2".. I think the springs settled a bit since I've been driving it around some. As long as I feel better about it right? :nut

That looks much better. I'm glad the leaf spring rebuilding worked for you. It's a time consuming mod but the results can be impressive.

Shannon,

You are doing it wrong...

Shaun,

One of the big things holding me back on that is the exhaust.. I really, really like the exhaust exiting out of the valance on this particular car. I know that's kind-of-a silly reason not to do an upgrade like this.. but it is what it is.

If it's any consolation, I'm slowly looking for a 65-66 coupe for my next project. You can bet I'll be giving you a call. :)

John,

I appreciate the advice on this, you're right its a big PITA, but at the end of the day, I was able to dial the height in to exactly where I wanted it...

Truth be told, once you figure everything out, its not a hard process.. just time consuming.

That is one beautiful rear end. In fact, it should be in the Daily Thong thread...

Hey strange story regarding that day at VIR. That parade lap that I took, I happened to be behind a beautiful red Pantera... Fast forward to a couple months ago at a local Cars & Coffee show; I parked next to a guy that had a BMW 850 that he was showing. After talking to him he told me that he also has a red Pantera... By chance, I asked him if he had ever ran a parade lap at VIR a few years ago.. and he had. I told him that I was in a black 66 Mustang coupe directly behind him. After exchanging emails, the guy sent me this a few days later:

I just thought it was an interesting coincidence...
