Rear glass?

Has anyone ever heard of a back window in a car suddenly blowing out for no reason?

My buddy just called...my TA is at his shop. He said they were sitting there eating lunch and heard something outside. They go to look and the rear window in the TA just blew out.

Doesn't seem that hot today or anything.

I don't think they did something and they are lying about it but I've never heard of a window suddenly blowing out....

Wondering if some a-hole was lurking around and threw something at it or something along those line. But even if that were the case the window would have broken inward. This back window clearly blew out...not much glass in the rear seat but lots of glass on the trunk, etc.

Any one ever hear of something like this?

uh, no.

If someone pitched a rock or something against it and caused it to shatter you would still get plenty of glass everywhere not just inside.

True...

I am also wondering if someone did something to it last night (threw a rock, etc) and maybe the glass was cracked but didn't "explode" until it heated up in the sun today. :shrug

We are still waiting on the motor to return so they haven't been doing anything with it...just sitting there waiting on it's motor.

So it's sitting there without a motor and the back glass blown out?

Sounds about like the typical completed TA restoration. Have it towed home to display in the front yard and you'll be the envy of mullet heads all over Texas.

So I should start working on growing a mullet? :shrug

Only if you're gonna keep the TA and drive it.

I've seen rear glass blown out in the summer time while sitting in the hot sun.

I have seen a sunroof spontaneously blow out. It was my friends mustang (95 or 96) and it was parked in my driveway sealed up tight on a hot day and all of the sudden it started raining glass shards all over the driveway! We were not far away so we saw the whole thing :hide

I've been thinking about this one some more. If the car was sitting out in the sun, doors closed, windows up I think I know what happened. Thirty years of excessive cheap cologne over-spray would have been built up in the carpet, upholstery and headliner. It probably spontaneously combusted and blew out the rear glass. Just thank god you removed that large gold horn from the rear view as someone may have been seriously hurt!

Apparently...I'm not supposed to drive it....just leave the motor and back window out then park it in the yard. :shrug

Got to have the mull if it's on blocks too.

I had a rental car in Tucson blow out a passenger door window. I came back to the hotel around 6PM, so it was cooling down. Had all the windows up. Went out at 5AM to drive to the airport and the window shards were both inside and outside the car in such a fashion that it was not due to a rock.
