rebuild kelsey Hayes calipers

Getting ready to install front disc brakes with dual Master Cylinder on my 66. I have original Kelsey Hayes disc and am going to use the 74 Maverick MC. I'm going to attempt to rebuild the calipers. What problems are I likely to encounter?

You'll probably run into frozen, rusted pistons. I once sent a set of 4 pistons calipers to SSBC and they sleeved them. Might be an option if you live where rust is prevalent. Also, I think there was a difference between the '66 and '67 pistons, the were different depths, but I think the seals were the same.

Midlife had a set with 67 on one side and 66 on the other. The dust boots (seals) for the pistons are different, as are the pistons (which doesn't matter). I rebuilt both of my calipers myself. The only problem I had (it was fatal) was that one of the cross-over tube receivers was cross-threaded and there was no way to repair it. I ended up getting SSBC replacement calipers.

Mid, so, are you saying that you have one that you rebuilt and it working okay?

Don't some of the rebuilders use stainless pistons to avoid the rust issue? I have a pair of sandblasted repops that I'd like to rebuild eventually but haven't looked for rebuild kits with pistons yet. Just a thought.

Way back when, I bought a used set of KH calipers for Red. Rebuilt them with new pistons and seals, etc. No problems at all.

One was working fine; the other did not. I ended up replacing both.
