Recommended alignment shop in DFW?

The one place I found recommended at VMF wanted $350....I think I can do a little better on the price. Any suggestions?

Sorry if this isn't the right place for this, there are like a zillion subforums here.

Don't exaggerate. There's only a half billion sub forums.

350 is an outright violation of your poop chute. Who TF quoted you that price?

I'd do it for 75 bux if you were a little closer. (OK, a lot closer) I'm southwest of Houston.

Rick might know someone up there than can do it more reasonably.

I'll have to check my math, but I stand by my initial count for now.

C&S Performance in Plano. I think it was a bargain, since I was getting a "four wheel alignment."

btw, the smilies on this forum aren't quite big enough, who can I talk to about getting larger ones added?

Am interested in this info as well. I am in Cedar Hill and have replaced balljoints, LCA's, done the Shelby drop, etc.

$350 seems crazy to me. I'd like to know what they were going to adjust on the rear? Thrust alignment? Sounds like a different type of "thrust" to me.....

Maybe I'll just drive to Cedar Hill, trade you some beer for replacing my suspension components & doing the Shelby drop on my car, and then hang out whilst we wait for a recommendation on a reputable alignment shop.

Bring lots of beer..... :weas

Seriously, I'll bet Mustang Steve can recommend someone at both ends of Dallas. Will email him tonight.

For $45 for a camber/caster tool, a tape measure, and two plastic trash bags, one can do your own alignment in your garage. It's not rocket science!

Spoken like a guy who's sitting on an excellent write-up, complete with pictures, just waiting to be linked to in his next post. =)

Funny thing is, they dont even have an alignment rack at the shop.....

Haha.....So they outsource it and mark it up?

They're definitely marking it up...whether or not they actually do anything will remain a mystery for somebody else to solve.

Too bad you guys are not closer.

I have some folks I know at a couple dealers up there. I'll feel them out for you.

Steve's response:

"Unfortunately, cannot really make a recommendation. Most of the Mustangers are doing it themselves nowadays. Most alignment places have computer machines with some young stud running them, and they do not understand how the old stuff works. There used to be an old guy at the Waxahachie NTB that could do it, but he is no longer there.

It is not hard to do if you purchase a ball joint inclination measurement device to set the caster. Once caster is right, the rest is a piece of cake. You can line it up in less time than it would take you to wait in line to have it done. Main thing to remember is to have the car at correct ride height when adjusting. If you jack it up for any reason, then you have to roll it back & forth about 20 feet so the springs are settled out again."

I did my own alignment on Shag with a borrowed Longacre caster/camber tool #LAR-78260. It drove perfectly straight. Still took it in to a local alignment shop that is ran by an old fart from the old school who's had his share of Mustangs. He was very impressed how close I got it dialed it.

I would certainly recommend doing it yourself as well. The last time I paid someone to do (one of the local Mustang shops), I ended up having to do it myself anyway and those [expletive]'s didn't tighten down the tie rod sleeves.
