Rewire or No Rewire? That is the question.

So I have a couple of projects going on and I was wondering if I should go ahead and rewire them just to be safe from possible fires early in the future? And also if EZ Wiring Harness's would be good to use if I did decide to.

Depends on the items you are wiring and the condition of what you have.

For stock wiring, I recommend talking to Midlife on here. He is the best deal around for refurbished original harnesses with stock options possibly added.

As for after market systems, there are lots of comments both ways on different brands.

Your spreading yourself too thin. IMO, you need to pic a direction and head it. You can start on these cars anywhere, the question remains, what works for you, and what direction will get you there the most effectively. Good luck.

Well if I was gonna rewire a car I would set my mind to completing that one project yes. I wouldn't get halfway through rewiring then decide I need to do something else lol. But if a new coil doesn't get my car running, then the next thing I can think of is either my Distributor is Going out or im not getting 12 Volts to the Coil in which would also cause a weak spark in which would end up being a wiring caused problem. And If I redid the wiring it would save me guessing and having to hunt for the problem later.

I would recommend finding the problem as to why it is not running prior to re-wiring. Not a good idea to throw money at an unknown problem.

Well im going to put a new coil, and see if that doesn't get her started, and if that doesnt get it started im going to test the distributor, and if its good, then Ill check my wiring between the coil and the ignition switch.

Jumper wire from the pos. battery to the ign. side of coil. Crank car with key. If it starts, you will have to pull the jumper wire to shut it off. This tests the coil and gives a possible test of the wiring.

well uhh bout that... I would try it. but I kinda have to get a new coil regardless if the old one was good or not. I thought the wire was sposed to come off and pulled on it and the whole wire sorta came out of it.... so I need a new one regardless lol....

Still looks like the wires all come off of the posts......at least on the ones I looked at they did.

This one came with the mallory Ignition coil when I bought it and it hadnt ran since the 80s, so the only thing i couldve thought of was that there was a production change in there somewhere where the wire to the distributor didnt come off the coil.

Posts look like a normal coil.

I had a Mallory like that in the '80's that the coil wire went into a hole in the top where you see the coil post. There was a cover that unscrewed, you would cut the coil wire to get a bare flat end, slip it through the cover and push it down on a needle type post to make contact then screw the cover back down which would keep tension on the wire so it wouldn't slip out. I think the cover had and O ring.
Look for a phillips head screw on the top or better yet post us a pic instead of making us guess...

Which sides the ign. side? and waht do i do with the negative side?

The side hooked to the dist. stays as is. The battery power gets hooked to the other side. They should have a + and - somewhere. The + is the positive.
