RIP Mercury

Always liked the line but I can see the problems. To bad they didn't keep the Cougar going over the years like the Mustang. I had a '93 and '96 and enjoyed them but they were big cars.

I always had a soft spot in my garage for Mercurys. My first car was a 1969 Cougar. It had a 351W and an FMX transmission and was slime green inside and out.

My parents had a 1973 Colony Park wagon with a 460. That is the only vehicle I knew that could do a burnout to 30 mph with 10 people in it. The Barcaloungers in the front two rows of seating were fabulous. It also auto levelling air shocks. I remember travelling across the country in that car, with my father sleeping and my mother driving, and my father waking up somewhere in Wyoming and shouted 'What the hell you driving 90 MPH for!!!!'. My mom said 'because I wanted to get there sooner. That car got 12 mpg no matter the speed.

RIP Mercury...

I had the poorer sister a 75 LTD County Squire with a 460. also got 12 mpg regardless of speed.

My first Mercury---1966 Mercury Montclair 4 dr. 390-2bbl. this was in the mid 70's, one night a cop pulled me over in a small town we cruised a lot and I asked what I had done and he said he had a report on the radio of a car matching this cars description involved in a hit and run, I looked at him and said come on, why don't just say you wanted to check me for booze---there is prob not another merc montclair within 200 miles of us--it was not a real common ride by then.

The cougar was one heck of a vehicle....

Yes, they are / were...at least the classic ones were pretty cool.

Buddy of mine back in our high school days had a really sweet '67, always liked that car.

Yep the rear rolled down. My dad had one for a few weeks.....was totaled while parked at his work. Something about a tracto trailer of steel sliding into it on an icy parking lot.
